If you are replacing the entire mirror assembly you have to remove the door panel.
First remove the switch plate by prying upward at the rear of the switch plate and unhook the connectors. Then remove the two armrest screws. The door panel then has to be pryed away from the door to release the clips. They don't give up easily so yo may have to force it a bit. Once the clips are loose pull up on the panel to remove it from the window reveal molding. The mirror is held on with three 10mm nuts. remove those and unhook the wiring from in the door. Install is reverse of removal.
Good Luck

Interesting and fairly easy to do. I pried off the black plastic interior trim piece by simply pulling carefully on the end facing the windshield, then pulling at the back end. Came off fairly easily. Once off, I could see the wire connector. The mirror has a short wire which goes through the body of the car and connects to the wire connector which comes from inside the door. I did have to take out the two screws holding the front part of the door panel. This was to weave the wires back through because the go below the top of the door panel through the door body.
Once that was done I found the main screw through a barely big enough hole in the door and took that out.
Once that was off, all I had to do was take out one more screw that goes through the front metal body of the door into the mirror assembly.
It was just a process of weaving the wire back through the door, then I installed the front small screw next to hold the mirror in place, then I put in the big screw that really holds the mirror on, connected the wire back together and put the screws back into the door panel. Snap on the inside plastic piece and you're done.
It took me about 30 minutes or so and I had never done it before.

If its a power mirror there is more thing you will have to remove to get to the wires but if not there is a screw on the corner piece on the inside of the door. just pull the screw out and the bolts (3) that hold the mirror on are behind it. If it power then you will have to remove the door panel to access the wiring to disconnect it
