How to remove metal tab on back of rear view mirror 98 Jimmy

Metal tab is what is glued to windshield. It came unglued from windshield. My problem is similiar to this http://www.fixya.com/cars/t2266429-rearview_mirror_fell_off_windshield_not. Except that in this problem, the tab stayed on the windshield. I need it off to glue it to windshield.
Afraid to glue it with the rear view mirror attached because it is too heavy.
There are no screws anywhere. There is a metal clip between the tab and the mirror mount. That looks like it should pull out and release the tab, but I can't get it to come out. In the picture from the page above, it indicates glue, so it may just have to be forcibly removed. Anyone know the correct way?

Interior rear view mirror fell off my 98 BMW 540i

There is a small set screw that holds the mirror to the small metal button. Most vehicles use a small Phillips screw but some use a Hex Key Wrench (Allen Wrench) type screw. Slide the mirror off the button. Make sure not to remove the glue before you put the button back on. Trace around the glue with a grease pencil on the outside of the windshield before you remove it. So you know exactly where to replace the button. You can buy a Rear View Mirror Adhesive Kit for around five dollars.

Seperate rearview mirror from plate both came off

Replacing the rear view mirror on a Ford Explorer is easy. The only obstacle you might encounter is fear of breaking the glued metal plate off the windshield. Do not sweat it. You can buy glues at the auto parts store to reattach the mirror to the windshield (Difficulty: Moderately Easy).

Instructions:
  1. Tap gently at the base of the mirror where it slides on over the metal plate glued to the windshield and pull upward. Some rear view mirrors have a small Allen screw that tightens the base of the rear view mirror to the metal plate. Disconnect the electrical plugs if your rear view mirror has them.
  2. Pull the rear view mirror clear of the metal plate. Clean around the metal plate glued to the windshield. If the metal plate has come off because of harsh weather or from hammering too hard at it, reattach it with glue designed for this job.
  3. Clean the area where you will be attaching the metal plate on the windshield. Apply the glue evenly on the surface of the metal plate that will go against the window. Be sure to clean and scrape off all the old glue before applying the new glue. Gently push the metal plate against the windshield in the spot you wanted it and hold tight for five minutes.
  4. Wait a day before putting the base of the mirror or replacement rear view mirror onto the metal plate. Do not force the base over the plate. Forcing it will likely dislodge it again. Press firmly until it will not slide along the grooves of the metal plate. Reconnect your electrical plugs and tighten the Allen screw if your new mirror has one. Adjust the mirror according to your safe viewing preference

Hope help with this (remember rated this help). Good luck.

How do you remove the rear view mirror from mount.

Is the mount made of metal or plastic? In either case, it will be attached to a "base" that is glued to the windshield. A metal mount should have a tiny little screw in it that pins it against the base. Loosen this crew and the mount should slide upwards (towards roof) off the base. A plastic mount should have a tab that you can pull on and slide it off upwards....

Re-assembly of 99 Blazer mirror to windshield

This is a relatively easy task, the bulk of the work has been for you. The rear view mirror assembly simply slides onto that metal block that was glued to your windshield. Your mirror mount (the part that slides onto the metal bracket) may be cut differently or shaped different from the rest of that part. you simply need to line that up with the metal mount on your windshield. slide the mirror on and tighten down the set screw if you have one. I've listed the steps below

1. find the base mount for your mirror (this is the bottom of the mirror that sits on the windshield)

2. look for a cut out or flat part of the mirror base.

3. line the flat part of the mirror base with the metal mount bracket on the windshield.

4. slide the mirror onto the metal bracket (this may require you to wiggle while you slide the mirror onto the metal bracket).

5. tighten the set screw on the mirror base ( this is important because your mirror will vibrate off the bracket if you don't.

Note some mirrors slide from the bottom of metal mount bracket and some slide from the top. it sort of depends on the manufacturer and/or the way the bracket was installed.

Hope this helps

sliding the rear view mirror onto the metal tab on the window. look at the part of the mirror that slides over the peice on the window. one end is open and has grooves on the side. you have to put the base of the mirror above the metal mount and flat against the window then slide it down over the mount. there may be a screw to hold it in place.

Rearview mirror fell off windshield! Not broken...

the mirror should simply slide over the metal mount (button) that is glued to the window.

loosen the set screw on the mirror mount...

hold the rear view mirror mount on the glass just above the metal mount (wide end of plastic opening facing down)

slide it into place...
secure it by tightening down set screw you loosened earlier.

How do I re-install the rear view mirror?

If it goes directly attached to the windshield, you will have to remove a metal piece of metal from the mirror base. This will have to be glued with epoxy glue to the windshield holding it it with tape overnight. After this you can put the mirror back.
