On 1995 Dodoge Stratus, where is the input sensor sensor & how do I test it? Trying to solve a going into limp mode after some time passing over rought tewrrian (i.e. rail road tracks). The solnoid pack has already been replaced & the Dodle dealer does not know what is wrong. I am wondering if it is the input sensor might be the problem becuase the speedoder is fine when in limp mode.

    Hello Jan
The sensor I am talking about is the input speed sensor and how to test it. I personally think it is a loose wire problem but I am unbale to find a complete wiring diagram because the diagrams I find only show the wiring harness & not the indiviual wire connection. Do you have any thoughs on what else it could be? This seems to be a very common problem with no solution based on my searching.

Input sensor? what input sensor? the Oxygen sensor? the Power steering pressure switch? the Throttle Position Sensor? the Vehicle Speed Sensor? the park/neutral position switch, there is alot of sensors in a car, and many of them require a input from you as a driver, so a "input sensor" is not enough information to help you, i am guessing you refer to the throttle position sensor? if so it is mounted on the throttle body, the left image is 4 cyl engine and the right one is v6 engine http://yfrog.com/5itpscj

if there is a problem with the speed sensor you would recive a Code 15 (odb2) during "road load condition" i.e driving, and the check engine light would come on,
do you know any fault codes recently or currently on the car?
as you probably noticed English is not my primary language so please ask if i dont make any sense

The Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) is located on the transaxle
near the left engine mount - manual transaxles only
    http://yfrog.com/5pvssj

quote from the haynes repair manual:

"The Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) is
located on the transaxle near the left engine
mount (see illustration). This sensor is a permanent
    magnetic variable reluctance sensor
that produces a pulsing voltage whenever
vehicle speed is over 3 mph. These pulses
are translated by the PCM to determine vehicle
speed, distance traveled and, on models
equipped with cruise control, it governs the
    speed control servo.
Note: To backprobe an electrical connector,
use pins or paper clips inserted into the rear
of the connector (or wire) to facilitate meter
attachment. Be careful not to short the
    probes during this process.
89 Raise the vehicle and support it securely
    on jackstands.
    90 First, check the VSS sensor supply voltage;
place the transaxle in Neutral and turn
the ignition key ON (engine OFF). Using a
    voltmeter, backprobe the orange/white wire
(1995 models) or orange wire (all other models)
(positive) and ground the other probe to
the transaxle. There should be approximately
8 volts present. If no voltage is indicated,
check for a blown fuse and examine the wires
for obvious damage. If the circuit looks OK,
have the PCM checked out at your local
dealer service department or other qualified
    repair shop.
    91 Next check the VSS sensor output voltage;
    backprobe the black/light blue wire
(sensor ground) and the white/orange wire
(VSS signal output - positive) at the sensor
    connector. The voltage should fluctuate
between 0 and 8 volts. If supply voltage is
detected but there is no signal voltage,
    replace the VSS sensor."

The van is a automation and will not shift pass second gear.

A scanner will show you. Codes will tell you. Or pull them and test them with am Ohm meter. Could be the solenoid pack also. If you transmission leaks. When it gets to low, it will suck air. This will also cause your van to go into limp mode. Start the van and check transmission fluid first. Fill as necessary. Turn it off and disconnect the battery for 30 minutes. This will clear the computer. Drive it. If it stays out of limp mode. Fix the leaks and/or keep it filled. Those sensors run around $20 a piece. The solenoid pack can be around $200+ Don't buy a good used one.

My 1997 Dodge Stratus is stuck in limp mode, second gear forward or reverse. It doesn't have a speedometer display or the tachometer most of the time. I replaced the output speed sensor and the Tr

Its not likely the transmission is causing the problem if both the speedo and tach are out. The tach does not involve the transmission.
Sounds more like a problem with the instrument cluster or the body computer.
You may have to get a used shop manual to get the wiring diagrams and testing procedures.

1995 cirrus transmission limp mode

THE INPUT & OUTPUT SPEED SENSORS ARE ON THE TRANSAXLE , THEY HAVE A TWO PRONG WIRE CONNECTOR @ EACH SENSOR. THEY ARE IMPORTANT !!!! THEY SEND INFO TO THE CONTROL SOLONOID FOR SHIFT QUALITY AND SHOULD ELIMINATE THAT LIMP MODE CONDITION. I WOULD ALSO CHANGE THE TRANS FILTER & FLUID, USE ATF+4 FLUID ONLY , DONOT USE DEXRON FLUID, ITS NOT GOOD FOR THIS TRANSAXLE, USE ONLY ATF+4 , ONLY !!! CLEAN PAN & THE SMALL MAGNET IN BOTTOM OF PAN . USE A NEW GASKET & FILTER. THE LOCATION OF YOUR SENSORS ON THE TRANSAXLE , STANDING IN FRONT OF CAR, HOOD OPEN, LOOK DOWN @ TRANSAXLE, (TRANSMISSION), USE FLASHLIGHT TO LOOK FOR SENSORS, INPUT , MIDWAY, CLOSE TO CONTROL SOLONOID, OUTPUT, TOWARDS WHEEL. LOWER AREA/TRANS, ARE YOUR NEUTRAL SAFETY & BACKUP SWITCHES ! THREE PRONG CONNECTORS, HOPE THIS HELPS !

1995 gmc yukon.third gear & od slips doesn't engage. check engine light came on, but i disconnected the batt. and that cleared the comp. i believe it is the sensors that tell the vortex engine and...

It sounds like your Yukon is running on the limp mode. On the limp mode, the truck will not go pass third gear. it could be as simple as tune up such as getting a miss fire will cause your Yukon to go in the limp mode.
Not sure if your Yukon is still running OBD1 system, that year was the change over year. Here is a link if it is a ODB1 system for you go retrieve the DTC codes. http://www.troublecodes.net/GM/ If your Yukon is on the OBD2 system, then your going to have to get it scanned. I believe Auto Zone can scan it for you free of charge.
Good luck and hope this helps you out, Oh and Auto Zone has the step by step instruction to the repairs need to be done to your Yukon.
