If the oil smells like gas, you should change it immediately.

Check fuel pressure and verify that it is where it should be.(55-62 psi). Wait 10 minutes check pressure drop. A fuel system that drops more than 34 kPa (5 psi) in 10 minutes has a leak, in your case it may be through an injector .

The sludge that accululates around your oil cap is indicative of coolant in the oil, this can be caused by a bad head gasket, intake gasket or cracked cylinder head.

Clean it off and see how long it takes to come back, a little accumulation is nothing to worry about.

I bet it has the famouse castech heads on it. The heads are bad and they are allowing coolant to get into the oil.
This will allow a very small amount of coolant to enter the engine oil. You will not notice a lose of coolant, they leak very little. Try taking off a valve cover and see if it looks like jello on them.

You got moisture in your oil pan. did you drive through any high water? I would watch it regularly now that you have fresh oil in it and see if it happens again.

Sounds like the wiring harness connection in the back of the speedo cluster is loose. This will cause crazy reading and the vehicle will perform like normal... sound about right??

2000 5.3 tahoe gas in oil

Fuel injector problem , leaking fuel pressure regulator ,

Causes of gas in oil
On my 94 Chevy blazer, gas in the oil was caused by a ruptured diaphragm in the fuel pressure regulator that is attached to the fuel injector. Flooding the engine. An over abundance of gas in your cylinders will wash down your cylinder walls and accumulate in the oil pan.

While driving my chevy tahoe gave a kick as if out of gas. I pulled over and got gas. Then I started to start the truck but should little sign of starting with gas hand on quarter tank. So I went under...

reason headlights got dim and eventually went off is because you drained the battery trying to start so first thing you need to do is charge battery after battery is fully charged check to see if it start if doesn't start pop hood and on fuel rail there should be a valve will look kinda like tire valve stem push in on that if gas sprays out then your getting fuel if it just dribbles out then you have no fuel pressure check fuel pump fuse and relay if both those check out good replace fuel pump
if you have fuel pressure then check to see if you have spark

2000 Tahoe, I smell gas after I turn off the

May be nothing more than a faulty gas cap or vent hose from the tank to the filler neck. Your charcoal canister for the fuel evaporation system may not be purging. It could be filling up with gas. It will eventually overflow, allowing you to see the problem.
