I'm replacing water pump, all bolts are out except the back one ,it seems that the pully on the I think power stering pump wont alloy me to get it all the way out

  • Anonymous May 11, 2010

Is the bolt completely unthreaded ? if it is, you may be able to remove the pump with the bolt in place and just put it into the new pump before placing it back on the engine...otherwise, you will need to take the ps pump off.

Have to remove the two power steering pump bolts. They're 13mm head. Once power steering pump is out of the way, waterpump bolt can be removed.

How to remove water pump on a 98 oldsmobile intrigue

It is very easy! Take off belt by putting a wrench or socket on tensioner pully and rotating it. belt will come right off. You will have to drain coolant. then take out all of the bolts holding the water pump on. you will have to remove the power sterring pump to get to the very back bolt. Make sure you clean old gasket off of the motor and install new gasket with sealer. reassemble in reverse order.
On '98s at least there is an access hole in the p/s pulley that gives you access to that last bolt
I found no access hole except through the power steering which was easier to remove than the PS pully that a pully remover does not have sufficient room. Two bolts top and bottom through the access holes for the PS pump and it is out of the way of the last water pump bolt.

Whaere is the water pump located

The water pump is on the top right hand side of the engine if you standing on the passenger side looking at the front of the engine. Keep in mind that the water pump only goes back on one way, so make sure that you have it clocked right or the bolts wont line back up. Remove the water pump pully first before you take the belt off. This makes it easier to break the pully bolts loose and then remove the water pump bolts. Then after, put the pully back on and then the belt and then tighten the pully bolts, the belt will help hod the pully for you.

Where is the watter pump located on a 94 mercury sable? How do i take it off to replace it?

this is for a 3.8 v6. first Disconnect the battery. then take off the Radiator cap and set it aside. on driver side at the bottom of the Radiator. there a twist valve. this is the coolant drain. put a large container under drain then open the valve. once it stops. on the passenger side towards the back in front of the belt tensioner but under the altenator is the water pump. but to get to it you have to take off the mounting bolts for the altenator (LEAVE ALL WIRES CONNECTED this will save time) now set it aside. now loosen the 4 bolts on the water pump pully. now take the drive belt off. take a pully puller and take the pully off the power steering. there should be a metal support going from the back of the a/c compresser to the water pump. undo the 2 bolts hold the bracket on the a/c compressor.(on a side note do not loose any of the bolts cause ford dont carry them anymore and hardware stores dont have them. only place i found is a junkyard) detach the hoses on the water pump. (Caution there will be some coolant left have container ready)l
now loosen the bolts on water pump. now under the car near the front right there are to engine mounts LOOSEN THEM ONLY ENOUGH TO RAISE THE ENGINE ENOUGH TO CLEAR. using a jack. raise only the passenger side of the engine enough for the water pump to clear the wheel well. once that is done undo the bolts on the water pump pully and take off and pull off the water pump and take off the support bracket and pull off the water pump. clean off leftover residue on the engine black. now put the silicon gel/paste on both sides of the new gasket. use a decent amount but not too much. then wipe off edges. and put the water pump back as shown below.

tar171_0.gif
attach the hoses. now put the support bracket back on then tighten the bolts down only a little and let the silicon set overnight for best leak protection. (by doing this. it allows the sillicon to create a good strong seal) after it set overnight tighten down the bolts. put the water pump pully back on put on the bolts hand tight . lower the jack SLOWLY! now retorque the enigine mounts to 70lbs i believe. put the 2 bolts for the a/c compressor back in. put the power steering pully back on. (MAKE sure you aline the pully up with the others or it will throw the belt) rebolt on the altenator. put the belt back on and refil the cooling system with coolant. reconnect the battery. start the engine for 30 sec then turn off check for leaks and top off coolant then then fill the rezivor to proper level. restart engine and run till operating temp then check for leaks

I'am replacing water pump 2006 grand prix, all bolts are remove but one. I can't remove it because theres a wheel pully in the way. I think it's the power steering pump help.

You may have to remove the pump...
BUT , maybe not...
The pump pully has holes in it... with the power steering belt loose or off ... turn the pully to see if the holes will allign with the bolt you are trying to remove... if not... then the power steering pump must be removed to gain access to the last bolt..

I'm trying to replace the failed water pump for my 2005 grand caravan. I've removed the pully bolts and housing bolts and moved the pully inward between the pump housing and the hub, but don't seem to have...

you can pry the engine over.. there will be just enough clearance to get
it passed the frame... just be carefull when prying it over not to slip cause you'll break the water pump on installation if the engine rocks back.

The belt that runs the water pump on 1995 Auora

Looks like the belt got hot??? You mean there are shreds of belt material all over the place? If so you have a locked pully somepalce. Replacing the belt is easy, find the diagram of the belt system under your hood. Find the pully that is the tensionor pully. Fine the correct wrench, remove tension, slip of belt from one pulley. remove belt completely, then, since you have shredded belt material, spin each pulley and see which one isn't turning easily. All the pullies will spin easily execpt for the crank. If you have one that's not, well, that one is shot. Needs to be replaced. And if may not just be the pully, might be the accesory which the pulley sits on. Example, water pump, altenator, etc....
