Rear end whinning at 72+ MPH - 2003 Chrysler Crossfire

Seats in the rear?? What are you trying to tell us. Explain the problem more clearly please.

A whinning noise while turning is an indication of a worn bearing. The extra pressure put against the bearing/race during the turn and the closing of a gap creates this noise.I would chech the axle bearings on the side of the truck on the outside the curve when you hear it. What I'm saying is if you hear it when you turn left....check the right side bearing

I went to have my tires on my 2002 4x4 Ford Explorer rotated and balanced then noticed that the fronts had significant inside wear so I replaced them. The rear tires were still in the 65-75 range. When I left immediately I heard significant whinning and thumping coming from the front end. Took it back and they said it was coincidence and I would have to take it to a shop that specializes in front end repair. I have a really close friend that owns a reputable shop and after 3 days he couldn't look at it long enough to determine the issue, even though he thought it was either a transfer case or possibly torque converter. I decided to work on it myself. The whinning started at about 35 mph and increased significantly when releasing the gas. After researching heavily and on the verge of giving up I saw a couple of threads that someone with similar issues just had tires with more than 1/4 difference in circumference. My front end felt like it was literally falling apart, so that couldn't be it, could it? So I did a simple chalk test by placing a mark at the bottom of the tire and roll the SUV for 10 revolutions and checked to see if there was any difference... Yes there was, but at this point I was still a nonbeliever that something this small could cause a vehicle to act the way it did.. So the front driver side chalk line matched the driver rear chalk line and the same on the passenger side. So I swapped one side drove it and BAM it was fixed, sure was better that the quote I was getting for the repairs from a friend 500-1400!!!! Do yourself a favor and try this!!!!!!

try the cooling fan its controlled by a thermo clutch,check it out.go online they tell you how.or if the fan free wheels to easy it likely is defective.

the whinning noise is definalty a signiture of the bearing, and they do on occasion start making the noise long before other systoms of a bad bearing appear. There is really nothing else in the suspension that moves in a manner to cause the whinning pitched sound, other than the axel, but there signature has allways been a clicking around turns, so id definatly look cloesr at the bearings......good luck

That may be possible. Clean out the area and check again so you would see better where exactly the leak comes from. Of the sound is loud or similar to metal, that may be it or a bearing assembly may be going out.

check rear end for lubricant, check for worn or broken parts

If the rear end is whinning it is probably safe to say that it is already damaged and will need to be replaced to correct the problem but there is a fill on the passenger side near the yoke side. It fills level with the plug hole.

Your transmission is not shifting into overdrive, it is staying in 3rd gear. I have the same problem.
