If I don't turn my cruise control on within about 5 minutes of starting the truck it won't come on. Sometimes when I have it on it turns itself off and the only way to get it to come back on is to stop the truck turn it off and back on again then start driving and turn on the cruise again. It sounds like the wiring to the ignition switch or the switch itself is the culprit.

by cruise control being PCM control have dealership code scan see what causing cruise control turn itself on.

1. if not already done, set the parking brake.
2. turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
3. turn cruise control on
4. turn cruise control off
5. turn cruise control on
6. very rapidly push the RESUME button four times and then hold for four seconds on the fifth time.
7. oil change light should clear.
8. the time the cruise control is turned on for the second time to the time the fifth activation of the resume button is held down must be within 6-7 seconds, if not you must repeat the process.

Must not have been much of a mechanic. If the engine runs and sounds fine sometimes and other times it doesn't then it does not sound like a mechanical problem with the engine. Sounds more like a issue with either the ignition system or fuel system.

make sure your switch cruise on off is OK (not bad) .

Hi , Cruise control is a nice thing to have but only if it works properly. Turn it OFF when you don't need it. If it still gives you trouble have it looked at by a mechanic. Good luck

I have a 2005 dodge 1500 with the 4.7 litre engine. The cruise control is intermittent. Sometimes you turn it on and the cruise light stays on for a bit and sometimes it shuts off within a second or so. Any ideas; without the cruise light on I have no cruise.

i'd be checking fuses and realys. Who know's ur faulty relay could do something like that as well. If not then have your cuise control servo checked and replaced if necessary. check for loose connection or corroded connection. also make sure your switch is not half way in between on and off itself. good luck!

Finally got mine fixed. It was a faulty Cruise Control Module..
