sounds like the mode door actuator. not moving to defrost. maybe if you try to see if their is a reset procedure for the control head you might can get it working. usually you unplug it and go through all of the settings.
could be the plastic parts on dash rubbing or the plastic exterior pieces close to the window rubbing, if it was electrical you would know by either a dash light coming on or electrical issues
