Sunroof and front windows mysteriously opened with engine off

2008 Lincoln MKZ. Woke one morning to find both front windows down and sunroof fully open. Keys were on my desk. Obviously the engine was not running. Thought it totally mysterious as I never open a sunroof completely...but said to myself I must have done something stupid. Then it happened again. Phoned dealer I leased it from. His reply? "Yeah, we've heard of that happening."
No further explanation nor fix was offered. This means I drive a car that
may open itself to any thief, thunderstorm or snow fall and I'm supposed to accept it? Never again!

Last summer I was coming out of the bank and I know I had clicked the unlock before I went out the exit door I must of double clicked and as I was walking out of the doors and my car was parked in the first stall I had just witnessed the windows going down and the sunroof pop open on my 2007 Lincoln MKX. My husband and I thought that this car is going to give us electronic problems that we had better sell it soon. But I was investigating online and read about this. Yes it is true if you double click or hold down not exactly sure what I had done the windows open.

Just an FYI. If you hold down the Unlock button on your keyfob for the MKZ (not sure about othr Lincolns) for about 5 seconds (not sure exactly) or more the sunroof and windows will open. I believe this is designed as a cool down convenience feature. Not sure if that was the case, but you may have tripped that feature without knowing it. Still, it is embarrassing that the dealer didn't at least mention this possibility to you.

Look in your owners paperwork for the Customer Relations line. Call the number. Explain what the dealer said (He needs to be reported.).

I worked for Ford Motor in the Detroit area. We were given contact cards to hand out to people (I am out) and the cards had Customer Relations numbers for ALL divisions. The dealers response is unacceptable. The main company is serious about
its products.

Your Lincoln has the longest and most complete warranty of any Division in Ford Motor. This will be a warranty repair. Each dealer is handled by a Zone Rep. The Zone Rep will be contacted about the dealer when you report this.

2008 GMC acadia has water leaking from sunroof , how do i fin the drain hose?

The drain hoses typically run from the 4 corners of the pan around the sunroof. Usually the blockage is from the top side, so open the sunroof and clean from there. Some applications require that you drop the ceiling material for access.

Front windows and sunroof open on their own when car is turned of

Had the exact same thing happen to my 2009 MKX. It has happened twice now. Today I discovered that if I press and HOLD the unlock button on my key fob, the two front windows and sunroof will open! Mystery solved! So...the key fob must have been pushed up against something in my purse. I wonder if there is a way to turn this feature off!?

Electric windows go down on its own without key in ignition

Some year models of MKZ, maybe other Ford products too have problem with windows going down when the lock button is pressed on the ignition key. These models have a safety feature that when you press and hold for two second one of the buttons (look in your manual) on the ignition key the windows and sunroof will open. I was told by the dealer there is a problem with the receiver in car.

My driver and passenger window along with the sunroof will mysterously open with no keys in ignition. This has happened 3 times in the last 2 months. You wake up in the morning and car is wide open? Any...

yes, the remote has a function that if the unlock button is held down the windows and sunroof will open automatically. Perhaps you have a remote that intermittently sticks causing this concern.

2005 Chevy Equinox sunroof problems

Some customers may comment that the sunroof will no longer respond to the control switch while in a vented, partially opened, or fully opened position.
Cause A software issue with the sunroof control module may cause the sunroof control module to incorrectly indicate a "closed" position, which may result in no power to the sunroof motor.
Correction Verify the customer concern. If a condition is present, replace the sunroof control module with a new sunroof control module, P/N 15847643. Refer to the Service Procedure in this bulletin.
Service Procedure
  1. Verify the customer concern by opening and closing the sunroof. • If the sunroof will not open , check the power windows. - If the power windows are also inoperative, check the fuse. If the fuse has opened, refer to Corporate Bulletin Number 05-08-64-004 to install 30A circuit breaker. - If the power windows are fully functional, refer to "Power Sunroof Inoperative" diagnostics (SI Document ID# 1392967) in the Body section of the 2005 Chevrolet Equinox or Saturn VUE Service Manual. • If the sunroof will open (or is already open), but will not close , proceed to Step 2.
  2. Replace the sunroof control module. Refer to "Sunroof Control Module Replacement" procedure in the Body section of the 2005 Chevrolet Equinox Service Manual (SI Document ID# 1196049) or Saturn VUE Service Manual (SI Document ID# 1710479).
  3. Open and close the sunroof in order to confirm that the customer concern has been resolved.
