1999 xj8 - turn key all dash lights up like normal but nothing happens...sometimes it will take one try and other times it may take 3-5 tries. In each try I remove the key and try again.

To my understanding, it is directly neither a wiring problem nor a computer problem. Technically the the computer is affected but it is not the source of the problem. The computer needs the dashboard cluster/instrumentation as part of its sensor array/feedback and therefore will not function correctly in the absence of the signals from the dashboard.

There are specialist for this kind of troubles which unfortunately is not an easy user repair. Perhaps your best bet then would be to consult or seek the services of these qualified professionals. Pls try Mr. Wizard. You can verify if your particular model is repairable by them here.

All you need to remove the abs reluctor is a 12 point 2" socket. No special jaguar tool needed.

Try neutral start switch. Use shop manual to determine its location on an automatic vehicle. If vehicle is a stick its attached to clutch pedal via lever. To test it remove it from its connectors and make a jumper wire and jump the circuit if car starts you found your culprit.
