On Lexus ls 400 the starter is located underneath the manifold of intake. The intake manifold has to be removed to replace the starter.The intake manifold located on the top, left side of the engine from the front, along with the hoses, wires and tubes connected to the manifold.Mark each connections before disconnecting.This will help you while reconnecting.The starter is fitted by bolts.Remove the bolts and detach electrical cables on starter.Remove starter from engine compartment.Then re-fit the new starter in reverse as you removed the old starter.Its not very easy job.You will require proper tools to do this.This will help.Thanks.Helpmech.
you will need to pull off the upper plenium and the lower intake manifold the stsrter is below and to the rear of the engine. you will need to remove the fuel rail and the injectors.
the starter is located in the valley under the intake manifold. you must remove the intake to access the starter. its a pretty involved job. when reassembling take your time and make sure that every wire is plugged in and every vacum line is connected.

Not too bad. Not much room, just enough to drop the starter. It is probably easier to go up through exhaust if you can get your exhaust shield off the manifold .
Simple fix... Just replace the brake light switch. It is located on the brake pedal arm about 6 inches above the pedal, it will have a plug going to it as well.
Let engine cool down, remove battery terminals (negative first, then positve), remove starter. Install starter, install battery terminals (positive first, then negative), start and check for proper operation (no grinding noise or squeling).
