2002 Prius will not stay running and runs rough. Had to tow it home last evening. Think it is ether the fuel pump or the throtle body injector?? Do you agree or has one of the computers went bad. BTW all of the items in the self check on the touch screen say that they are ok

Comment from the FixYa moderator staff...

We DISAGREE with the "check the fuel pump" solution.

What you really need to do, is determine if your oil changer is using the CORRECT oil for your car. The correct weight of oil is very, VERY important. You can easily determine if your oil changer is using the wrong viscosity oil....Simply remove the air intake tube from the throttle body, and manually open it. If you see liquid oil present in the intake, you have been wronged by your oil changer. This is a VERY common issue. The wrong viscosity of oil can and will cause you your issue.

We hope that this solution helps you out. Thanks for choosing FixYa for advice

The cam sensor controls the injector pulse. No cam signal = no fuel. Also these cars are known for wires chaffing through on the injector harness. If any of the wires are shorted out it will kill all the injectors and result in a no fuel no start situation. Check the wiring first, normally a no cam signal will set a code and a check engine light. Make sure the fuses are good also. Hope this helps.

Hard to start cold but once running is ok

I believe you have a throtle body correct? IF so you have poor fuel pressure, plugged filter of injector. If by some miracle you have a carberated engine the the fuel is leaking from the bowl. Get a carb rebuild kit.

1996 Dodge Intrepid with a 3.3L engine that won't run!!!

great you got it running... who would have dreamed someone would have filled the car with the wrong gas. E85 has alcohol in it. it will dry out and decay certain plastic and rubber type parts in the fuel system if the car was not made for this type fuel.
