2002 Neon - car idle rough with the A/C on. Have changed spark plugs, air filter, etc. and still runs rough. Took it to a shop and there are no fault codes. The problem only happens when the car sits in the sun for a few hours (hot) and will only happen when you come to a stop. The idle normally runs at 750rpm (No a/c on) and will drop down below 500 intermittently with the A/C on). Should the idle increase when the A/C is turned on with more load on the engine? If so; the idle remains at 750rpm. Any ideas?

YOUR ENGINE IS IDLING LOW.MOST CARS WHEN YOU TURN ON AC THE PCM WILL INCREASE IDLE SPEED TO KEEP ENGINE FROM STALLING OUT.I WOULD HAVE THE IDLE SPEED CONTROL CHECK OUT AT THE DEALERSHIP.THEY WOULD HAVE TO ADJUST YOUR IDLE SPEED.SINCE MOST IS PCM CONTROLLED.

Changed oil in bmw e36 now spark plug socket and spark plug are showing engine oil (old) Shop gave me wrong oil filter so have not started car yet as I do not have the right filter Also I changed air

IF there is a sleeve around the spark plugs then when replacing the plugs replace the seal under that sleave as well or rocker cover oil will leak out past the plug base.. If you want the correct oil filter you may have to buy genuine . Run fault codes to find the reason for rough idle . It may be a vacuum hose is off or cracked or loose.

Rough idle on 2002 Dodge Neon

Without trouble codes you are fishing in the dark. If the engine has a cylinder that is dead at idle from a fuel injector or ignition problem, it should have a code for a miss on that cylinder. A mechanical problem like a burned valve could cause the problem without setting a code. Have you checked compression on all 4 cylinders ? ?

Hesatation and rough idle

Hi, your Car needs a tune up. Have the spark plugs replaced a fuel injector cleaner added to the fuel tank and replace the air filter if it needs it. Change the oil and filter at least every 5,000 miles also. I believe by having these services done your rough run will be gone...

Car idles rough in park also runs rough in overdrive

Sometimes a rough idle like that is a fuel filter. As you've already done the plugs and wires the fuel filter would be my next bet.

I just changed the spark plugs and air filter on a 2002 Dodge Neon. At idle it sputters a bit now.

how many miles are on the car? try changing the spark plug wires if you have more than 60k on them
