I had a miss fire in cylinder 3. Thought it was the coilpack due to the age and mileage 115,000. Pulled out the coilpack and spark plug and found that the ceramic around the spark plug had failed/cracked. 10 thousand miles later same experience with cylinder #2. These are 11 dollar spark plugs, and the NGK dealer recommended for the 2.5 motor. I have had experienced mechanics say maybe one out of every 100,000 spark plugs made might have a ceramic flaw. This is two within the same four pack I bought last tune up. Is this a common problem with these motors/coilpacks?
That mechanic is correct; I usually recommend changing the plugs every 75-100k depending on driving condition. for example, living in florida during summertime the temperature tend to reach 98-100 degree on top of it all your car engine also produced enormous amount of heat under the hood especially in a heavy traffic jam, stop and go ect. Some plugs will have ceramic failer, its common to some vehicle depending on driving condition and the location along with the age and miles on the plugs. all plugs will have ceramic failer soon or later, some will last long than others.
Testimonial: "Right, I live in Phoenix AZ. And am on the freeway for most of my driving time where it might be in the summer months 115 degrees plus. Thank you!"
No it is not a common problem just make sure you have the correct plugs for that car
