ON 2005 Chevrolet Equinox won't start after short trips, however the battery and alternator have tested fine. Car will start up after a few hours. Trying to find what may be draining the battery (auto lights are possible since my wife doesn't seem to notice if they are off when she walks away)?

I'd suggest to check a gas pump first

My 03 trailblazer does the same thing and the service dept. told me that it was normal for this model to do that, it has never failed to stop but if your sitting at a red light you can feel the peddle go down to almost the floor but it stops fine and it has done this since day 1 and they say thats normal on the trailblazer.

SOURCE: 2005 equinox, headlights won't turn on, brigts work okay.

I had the same light issue a few weeks ago. There is just a single light bulb with dual filaments for the high and low beams. All you need to do is replace the light bulb. The instructions are in the owners manual.

Alternator

You can test the alternator if you face the car towards a wall at night, start the engine and switch your headlights on. Let the car idle / tick over for a few seconds and then just tap the accelerator and you should see the lights on the wall get brighter as the engine speed increases. If they don't your alternator is faulty.

2005 chevy equinox changed battery and alternator and still drains battery the next day or two

First are you sure the alternator is charging the battery ?
If it is, someone will need to pull fuses and disconnect major circuits until you find the drain. It could be a simple relay, or a short to ground in the harness somewhere.

Usually a sign of something draining the battery.
The machine test probably showed the battery could hold a charge and the alternator was charging the battery.
You may need to have someone check for a power drain.
When the key switch is off, there may be a weak short to ground or a relay or component that is using power.

1997 Monte Carlo battery wont stay charged after a jump. The car will warm up then when turned off won't turn over it makes a clicking noise when ignition is terned.

Could be a bad battery, and or alternator, if the alternator does not charge the battery when the vehicle is running your battery will drain causing no start.

The car was running fine one day then the next day it would not start. We tried jumping it thinking the battery might be dead and it still would niot start. The car has power until we take the jumper...

Sounds like you have a toasted battery or alternator. Have you performed a load test on the battery? Have you tried to charge the battery? First remove the battery and charge it externally from the vehicle. If the battery won't hold a charge, or won't hold a charge of 12 volts, replace it. Once you have the vehicle started, test the operation of the alternator. It should be putting out at least 13 volts back to the battery to keep it charged - if it is putting less than 13 volts or more than 16 volts, replace the alternator.

2005 Equinox will not start

Okay...not sure by the description....if you have noise while turning the key and it is clicking....bad starter. If you have NO power at all like a completely dead battery and you have to jump it, then the battery is either going dead or your alternator is not keeping the system charged. You can go to almost any parts dealer and they will test the battery, alternator, and starter for free.

Do you have any noises when you try to start it?
