The sensitivity on the alarm itself is too high, or there is something around the car that is interfering with the frequencies that are sent / received by the alarm itself, like other car alarms, power lines (mine actually did it when i parked under a power line) or the alarm unit itself is malfunctioning.

make sure that nothing is around to the (other cars with alarms) or look up under your dash, above your pedals (might have to take the trim plate off) and / or turn the sensitivity knob (flat-head screw driver, or just a simple protruding knob) down. make sure the battery in the remote is good too. if it stil ldoes it after this, then your remote needs to be reprogrammed.

Our remote key will not function properly we are unable to turn off the alarm so every time we want to drive the car the alarm sounds for 30 seconds and everyone around thinks we are stealing our car help

Verify good battery in remote. Then try this...works on some cars. Standing close to car, press both "LOCK" and "UNLOCK" buttons at the same time. Hold for 10 to 15 seconds and horn should chirp and door locks will cycle indicating the system will now recognize the remote. If not, check owners manual if you have it. Otherwise, a trip to a VW dealer is in your future.

When i try to turn the car on the alarm goes off and the car doesn't start. help

If you can step up to the car and unlock it with the remote and everything is ok until you touch the ign. I'd say door switch. If you unlock the car, but fiddle around a bit before starting, the car has a senile moment and trips off.
But if you can't even use the remote then it sounds like the key isn't recognized by the alarm system. Try a different key, like the valet key- the one without the alarm buttons on it. If that doesn't work I'd say you have to drag the car and EVERY key to the VW stealership to have the alarm recoded

Have a 2000 VW Beetle. The alarm won't turn off!

My 2000 Beetle does same thing (although not all the time). Just found an internet post that suggests there is a problem in the door lock sensor. I assume you are using a regular key - not
the keyless entry - like I am. He also said that you can disable the alarm (also disables the
keyless entry - which doesn't bother me) by leaving the front door AND the rear trunk open and
starting the car up. Seems to work so far. I will get the door lock sensor replaced and turn the
alarm system back on (not sure how yet), and let you know if that stops the problem.

ALARM RANDOMLY GOES OFF!!

the factory fit alarm is not voltage sensing .The best advice is to go to VW garage and get them to read the alarm causes,(they can check the last 4).this will give you a good idea where the fault lies.ie door lock mechanism, interior monitor etc..You cannot start looking for problem until you know alarm cause..
