1995 Jaguar XJ6 oil pressure gauge

I have a 1995 Jaguar XJ6. On starting the oil pressure gauge reads ok. However as I drive and I stop the oil pressure gauge drops to 35 and the oil indicator light dose not come on is this something that need to be looked at. When I start moving it dose not go up to 45 as it was. As I have missed my service 70,000 oil change, and I checked the oil level and it is ok.

This is OK. Oil pressure is always higher when the engine is cold.

As an engine accumulates miles the pressure will start to drop due to bearing clearances increasing.

If this just started to happen you may want to replace the oil filter and or oil pressure sending unit.

What kind and how many quarts of oil for the Jaguar xj 1995

On both my 90 and 92, I use and the recommended oil is a 20w50 multigrade oil. I have tried synthetics and they thin out and low pressure readings occur when running in hot weather. The normal range readings return with the regular multigrade oil.

108k on clock 14yrs old oil pressure indicates4 to quart

being the age and the miles on the vehicle it would not hurt and its good idea to replace the oil pressure sensor even though is fairly cheap to replace. they tend to to become faulty over times and not give correct reading.

Oils pressure gauge fluctuates

check the oil viscosity,it might be too old(driven for toomany miles)..

if thats not ityou might need to get the oil preasure lubricating pump checked, and id suggest you do it fast or theres a lot of engine wear and tear.

Low oil pressure light is on

Until u have a mechanical test gauge hooked up to verify the oil pressure is ok assume it is not a good idea to drive, low oil press will destroy a $4000.00 engine very quickly.
