Try disconnecting the NEGATIVE cable on the battery for 10-20 minutes. re-connect it. start the vehicle and drive it for a few miles to let the pcm reset. (make sure the key is off and out, just to make sure you don't fry something when you remove the negative-black wire cable!!). don't short it against the positive-red!
make sure the negative connector (on the cable) is isolated from the frame, or it will still be grounded! wrap some plastic around it, or something!
good luck!
hog wash.
The neg lug goes to all grounds in the car.
the engine,and all electrics.
you will not remove them all.(pull all harnesses?)
this is the correct way. below.
Keep in mind the battery can source up to 1000 AMPS (500 min) of current. Respect it.
Engine off
key off
engine cool.
hood up, let the battery get fresh air like this (this purges any hydrogen (boom) gas from lingering... ok? Ask any tow truck driver the bad news..
"the rule on lugs are, NEG off first, last on.." this prevents PLuS lug wrench hitting ground and the battery blowing up and acid to your eyes, ok?"
Disconnect the NEG battery terminal lug from the NEG post, first.
Disconnect the PLUS RED lug last, now.
The battery posts are now empty. (look 2 times be sure)
Next. touch the 2 free ended cable (I clean them now) and touch the 2 free ends together, this is it discharge step.
This is to discharge the PCM/BCM/SCM ... and more CPU brains, capacitors, which maintain the Adaptive Memory.
Let the car sit for say 30 minutes. (some folks skip this step, and can be ok.)
Reconnect the Battery PLUS LUG now. and NEG lug last. (the only safe way there is, ok?)
The headlamp bit my be internet myth (IDK)
Turn Ignition Switch to the “On” position but DO NOT start the engine
Turn Headlight “On”
Turn Headlights “Off”
Turn Ignition Key “Off”
this next part is not myth.
The PCM will start to collect data for the “Adaptive Memory”.
The TCM will learn new transmissions shift points and your style of driving.
The PCM will collect data for Adaptive Memory for the first 50 Warm-up Cycles. (including idle speed controls)
,end my way.
I have the 7000 page WK factory manual
and this is not in the book.
(best I can tell)
hint.
buy some high end jumper cables and read the manual.
or take and ASE class....
one other side effect of above, is the cars radio station presets buttons ,may be lost.
nothing tragic, just re set them again.
on some cars.(older for sure)

SOURCE: 2001 jeep grand cherokee no start, no cam signal or ASD control from pcm
IF YOU PULL OUT CAM SENSOR YOU HAVE TO PUT A TOOTH PICK IN THE TWO HOLES ON THE TOP AND THEN PUT IT BACK IN AND FACE IT TO THE BACK OF THE ENGINE.KING OF 4.0
SOURCE: where is the pcm on 1997 jeep grand cherokee 6 cyl?
I don't think the PCM is your problem, is the check engine light on? It could be you idle air control motor this is located on the throttle body, but because this happens while driving I am thinking you will need to replace your crank shaft position sensor it is located on the transmissinon bell housing it is very hard to replace without the correct tools. If the check engine light is on take it to a local auto parts store and ask if they can check the check engine codes for you they usally will do this for free.

Check the auto shut down (ASD) relay located in the power distribution box.
