2003 Hyundai Accent Logo

Hyundai Accent 2003 no spark and no headlights come back on after stopping for gas. Engine cranks over. Coil and battery seem to be ok. Everything else comes on. Checked all sensor connections since we just installed a new transmission the day before.

there are two sensors on the transmission. Both of them detect gears moving. One connects to the speedometer, we know which one. Is it possible for the other one to shut down the ignition and the headlights? The motor still cranks over. No spark.Maybe it is another module or computor problem?

    All fuses were checked.

  • Anonymous Sep 21, 2009

of course we checked all fuses. It probably wouldn't crank over with the ignition fuse out.

  • Anonymous Sep 21, 2009

I didn't say the coil is working. I meant it is not the problem. The coil only shows one spark when engine starts cranking, and one spark when it quits cranking. The coil wires all have power with the key on and not cranking. It is like a computor won't let the engine run or the headlights come on because it senses a major problem.

    Thanks for trying. Pete.

What would shut down both ignition and headlights on my 2003 hyundai accent?
We checked fuses, coil, and it appears like a computor shut down because some sensor detected a major problem? Someone sugested a ground short? Where do I look? It ran fine until we shut down for gas?

I don't know where to post answers to my own problems. We took the Hyundai in to a garage and they said the crankcase senser was out. This had nothing to do with the transmission or it's sensors.

Evidently the lights only go on with the key on. We must not have had the key in the right position when we noticed the lights didn't work either.

The crank sensor is right near the transmission, first thing to check.

This would have to be due to a fuse you said something like the headlights do not come on and you have no spark check fuses and fusible links for faults. Simple code check will not work in this issue.

If coil is working and no spark to the plugs check cables there is not reason for just no spark and headlights.

Thanks

Hi, can you do a little troubleshooting for us to help diagnose? Need to know if you are getting sparks and fuel to the fuel rail. Methods are provided in the following post: http://www.fixya.com/cars/r5821173-doesnt_car_start_gasoline_engines
If you can run some of these checks and get back to us with results, we can better help you to get your car started. OK?

No engine on coil

Thank you for using Fixya

Try to replace the high tension wires since electricity from the battery flows to the coil to crank the engine. The coil takes that spark from the battery and sends a much larger spark to your plugs, and the engine roars.

All the best!
