I have a 93 Pajero 2800 4WD with automatic transmission. It runs great except for the transmission. In the morning when the engine is cold everything works fine. It shifts gears from 1:st up to overdrive without any problems. Also kickdown works good. But after about 20 to 30 minutes or 10 to 20 km there is no more shifting but the transmission is stuck in 3:rd gear. To be able to drive it, for example after a red light, I have to manually put it in L and then D2 and finally in D but the overdrive will not engage. I have changed oil (after that the problem appeared) but it did not make any difference. Can it be an overheating problem or an electric problem. Our outside temperature is seldom under 29 c and I do a lot of bumper to bumper driving.
Definitely, there's a problem with your transmission. You are right, it is overheating. It is
caused by worn out part inside your transmission.
Have it checked by a qualified mechanic.
i have a 1999 montero sport automatic that does not shift the rpmsdo not stay at level. and it is not an electical problem i'm going to have a mechanic take down the transmission pan and check for metalic pieces.they said it could be a worn part ,or most likely the transmission they even told me that a transmission flush would not help at this time.
