SOURCE: 2004 Saturn Ion - Power Steering Problem

The motor on the power steering is overheating which causes the thermal overloads to trip.

go tho the junk yard and buy a motor for a 2004 thru 206 ion or a 2004 thru 2008 chevy colbalt.

they are all the same. You may have to buy the wholle steering colum but you can remove the motor with 2 - 12mm bolts and a quick dissconnect pulg. Replace just the motor as the whole steering colum is a bit more complicated. the dealerships want you to replace the whoe steering colum, in fact that is the only way they sell the parts. It is a scam. Just the motor needs to be replaced.
I have done it on 4 different ions. try to get a motor with few as possible miles and as new as possible. I have paid between $50 and $125 for these. The dealer wants $900 fnad about $500 to install. It is very simple to do. Only 2 bolts.

SOURCE: how do you change a power steering motor on a 2006

THis unit uses an electric motor for the Power Steering
It is located under the dash on the steering column. Remove the two bolts and unplug the wires...
You will have to remove the trime under the Steering column and the panel left end of the dash. Cost of the motor is $169.00 from the Saturn Dealership.

SOURCE: where do you add power steering fluid?

The HHR does not use power steering fluid. The power steering is strictly an electric motor attached to the steering column under the dash. If you are having problems, you may need to have the motor replaced.

However, before you do, check the following fuses:

Underhood fuse #1 - 60A
Inside console fuse #19 - 2A

Either with kill the steering and may have been blown if you (or an uninformed mechanic) have jumped the car incorrectly.

2006 ION. Why doesn't it crank or start?

It has electric power steering and there is a fault with it. The ECM recognises this and won't left you drive it.

There was a recall on it.

Only 2006-2007 Chevrolet Malibu, Malibu Maxx, and Pontiac G6 models built between April and June 2006 are included in this recall. As with the initial recall-which included the Saturn Ion, Saturn Aura, Chevy HHR, and Chevy Cobalt-the electric power steering (EPS) in these vehicles can fail at any time while driving.Feb 17, 2015

We have a 2003 Saturn ion with power steering light coming on. we know there's no where to add fluid but what about fuses? could it be that? if so where would they be located at to check?

There has to be a place to put more fluid in.........
The light that is on your dash isn't power steering.......
Check your owners manual for what that light really is.

Looking for where to put the power steering fluid in the saturn ion

are you shure this isn't electronic power steering? if so no power steering fluid on these. i have a 2006 gmc vehicle and it has electonic power steering. I had trouble with it and went looking for the fluid level only to learn there is none. i fixed the problem at least for now by finding the fuse for the power steering and pulling it. then replaced it and started the car and everything was ok. there have been some recalls on gm electronic steerings systems so you may have to check with a dealer. if this helps please reply and good luck

Power steering light comes on

Check the power steering fluid level; fill if necessary. If the Power steering reservoir is full, then you have a problem requiring a mechanic to sort it out.
