If you are saying that your engine won't idle the issue is typically:
1) a vacuum leak that keeps the engine from idling. The engine runs at off throttle positions because of the higher RPMs and thus vacuum volume. The 35 feet of vacuum hoses get brittle and crack, causing leaks.
2) the idle circuit of the carburetor is clogged and won't allow air/fuel mixture to pass into the intake manifold.
3) the carburetor is worn to the point that air enters (vacuum leak) from the throttle shaft bushings.
My bet is on the vacuum hoses. Buy 40' of good quality vacuum hose and replace one at a time.
A aerosol can of a flammable material such as starter fluid can be sprayed around the many hoses and base of the carburetor. When the engine revs-up you've located the leak. Use this process at your own discretion and with caution.

does thr engine rev upwhen started than idels back down.try idel control switch and map sensor
SOURCE: car dies when stopping, then starts up
Throttle body or idle control valve, with both of these faults you can normally get away with cleaning them.
