Need help to find MAF Sensor on 2005 Toyota Hiace 2KD FTV auto diesel

I have a 2005 Toyota HiAce 2KD-FTV auto diesel. I have been getting lost of power, I change the air filter, work well for a few hours and then the problem return, I was told my MAF sensor may need cleaning as I took too long to replace filter. I have been searching for the location on my vehicle for MaF sensor. Please don't say it by the airfilter, because I have search and can't find,

i take when you say it is remaining on the cold start. are you referring to the EGR valve.
also note, that i really do appreciated the time you have taken to assist. Thank very much

No friend, the computer works the cold start when you turn the switch. The temp sensor sends the cold message to the computer puts it in cold start mode and takes it off when engine warmed. If it's flooding and making black smoke, the temp sensor is saying it's cold and it's like always having the choke on. Temp sensor malfunction causes that situation. it's staying in cold start mode. And it's cool Bro, I'm just relaying some of my own experiences from my past. We're good pal.

BTW, EGR is Exhaust Gases Recirculation Valve. That's emissions control stuff and when it's bad, just causes a poor pick up deal when throttling up on hills and taking off, loss of power. That's all it does. Nothing on the engine startup.

I just started working on the van removing the component for the service of the MAF Sensor, there no MAF there at the intake from the airline from the filter, that goes to the throttle body and EGR, I am DIY guy, if there is picture that will be a great help. I will take the throttle body off and service, just one more bolt at the bottom that I am having problems removing, then I will have access to the egr and temp sensor to also service.

  • Rigger DeBusk Oct 22, 2019

You either have a throttle body or a Mass Air Flow. One or the other, never both. If it's a throttle body, that would be in the position of the old style carburetor. A MAF is on the front end of a snout type of manifold that the breather line is connected to. Whichever one you have, the throttle cable will be connected to a lever on it.

We found a Intake Air Temperature Temp Sensor For Toyota 89424-12010 170400-6020, it was in front located above the air cleaner, behind the front bumper, its all hard plastic, Took it out and spray with MAF cleaner, there was not anything to clean, don't forget my vehicle is diesel, test drive, idle better and smoother, not to long after the it start struggles and bucks as before on slight inclines an going over fly overs. not sure this type of sensor can be service or has do be replace

Now your saying something pal. Everything you've just said points directly at the EGR. Replace the EGR valve and you should these problems no longer. I don't care for EGR on a diesel, but it's all a part of emissions control. I took all that stuff off my 6.2 Chevy diesel, a hand built 74 4x4 on a '83 chassis, and it runs so much better and no more smoke at all. Just a bit of white smoke, raw diesel fuel, on startup from the cold start system I built on it.

No friend, it isn't by the air filter. It's the unit that is connected to the intake and the air filter flex hose goes to it. This MAF is mass air flow, and there is a wire across the venture of the unit on the inside. First, purchase a can of Mass Air Flow Sensor Cleaner from an auto parts store, CRC makes this spray cleaner made special for this sensor. The sensor IS the wire that runs across the venture of the MAF. Take the MAF unit off the manifold and air line from the filter, it just bolts on, keep your fingers and anything else away from the sensor, and spray it real good with the MAF Sensor cleaner. Spray the venture also to clean the bore of the unit. Put it back together and if, in fact this MAF sensor was the problem, the cleaner spray will have taken care of the situation.

Testimonial: "Thank you, I think I spot it at the bottom of the EGR sensor that is attached to the intake. I guess I will have to remove the EGR sensor unit to get at the MAF sensor and service the EGR Valve I hope this works, and hoping this will stop the black smoke"

The black smoke is just the excess fuel because it's constantly stuck in cold start mode. Get the spray cleaner for the MAF sensor. It'll clear up if that's the problem. But then staying in cold start mode by the computer because of a faulty temperature sensor. Check that while your there.

  • snar_tt Oct 20, 2019

Which one of the temperature sensors are you referring to.

  • Rigger DeBusk Oct 21, 2019

Bro, I didn't know there was more than one. I'm lost on that one, I just know a temp sensor is faulty when it's doing the black smoke like the choke is on. You'll have to test each one to see which is the culprit. Pull the connector from each and put a wire between the 2 on each and see which one goes to the gage. The other would go to the computer. They should look the same.

1998 Toyota Grand Hiace 3.0 Diesel. My van just quit and I lost power steering and my glow plug lights do not come on and the motor turns over but sounds like no diesel.

When the engine stops, the power steering stops because the engine powers the power steering pump with the serpentine belt.

There could be many reasons the engine stopped and the fuel pump is just one of them. Check for DTCs and diagnose the vehicle electronically with a pro grade scan tool computer.

What causes 2kd engine not to gave revs but can start

wow NO YEAR TOLD.
no car told at all, just vague 2kd , hint, (a true challenge that)
it is some kind of toyota, but they have vast vast models.
some models sold are 40 million sold by them.

real name and is a DIESEL.
2KD-FTV???????????? 2001 sold first in a hi-ACe truck never sold in USA< this truck.
2.5 L ,2005 CRS, common rail injections at 29,000 PSI. 2000BAR
seen first in UK market, so says WIKI, my guiding light to the no car told pit.

this engine is used in the Toyota Hilux, Toyota Fortuner, Toyota Innova and Toyota Hiace. In some Central and South American countries, Toyota also offered this engine on the 2003-2006 4Runner in limited quantities.
to get specks on car or trucks we need year and model
books are indexed and sold by year and model and country
that is how the world works , sorry.

my guess
  1. bad fuel
  2. injectors partly clogged
  3. fuel rail pressure out of spec,
  4. we scan it as some engines have rail sensor there. and moe.
  5. filters clogged. any.
not bad glow plugs, as it does start.

no HIACE here USA.

The pump is probably ok from the tank but the injector pump may have been damaged if the filter failed and allowed particulate to enter the pump also the injectors themselves maybe clogged best way to check the pump is with an oscilloscope (lab scope) check the amperage waveform with the lab scope and calculate the rpm , also check the fuel pressure from the pump with an appropriate fuel gauge
