The tcc solenoid is inside the GM transmission. it controls a valve in the valve assembly.

Somewhat difficult to service and you may need a special tool. It may also not fix the problem.

Hi there. My check engine light just started coming on (of course the week I decide to sell my car) and the code that came up in the diagnostic was P0741 torque converter clutch solenoid performance. I...

code p0741 refers to the torque converter clutch(TCC) solenoid--performance or stuck off===causes --Wiring-- TCC solenoid. The engine light is telling you that the cpu has found sensors that are out side of set parameters logged in the cpu program. The problem will be in the TCC solenoid either failed or the wiring connectors are dirty or have water in the connection. The fault refers to the unit and not the internals of the gear box which would have showed up with other fault codes.

Gm Code P0741

If the PCM detects high converter slip when the TCC is commanded on, then a DTC P0741 will set. The following conditions must exist for two times during the same ignition cycle. This code will set for all the same reasons that a P1870 will set: • The TCC duty cycle is greater than 50% • The TCC slip speed is greater than 180 RPM for 7 seconds • TCC slip in 3rd gear on 4L80-E transmissions Known causes for P0741: • Worn TCC valve bores in the valve body • Damaged or worn pump bearing seal • Defective TCC PWM or TCC apply solenoids • Restricted separator plate solenoid feed orifice • Defective converter • Computer reprogram • Channel plate sleeve & turbine shaft sealing ring damage

My 1996 Grand Am. sets code P1864. Car will not shift into overdrive. I was told that the TCC solenoid is at fault. Where is the TCC solenoid located.

It is located in the transmission under the valve body cover on the drivers side of the transmission. It is the solenoid on the bottom left hand side of the valve body. I had to take the suspension and frame support off and lower the transmission before I could remove to valve body cover. A retainer clip holds the TCC solenoid in place.

Thanks.

Error codes

Her is the definition and a list of possiable causes.

Code P1740-Torque converter clutch did not lock up when the PCM sent the command. Enabling conditions: No engine or transmissions codes are present, vehicle speed was under 70 MPH, TPS was under 33% open. When the PCM commanded the torque converter to lock, no change was detected in engine speed. Blocking action: This code can block the following monitors: none.
Testing: Check torque converter solenoid for proper operation.
P1740 TCC O/D SOL PERFORMANCE (GAS)
Theory of Operation
The Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) Solenoid is used to engage the TCC which improves fuel economy.
When Monitored
The Torque Convertor Clutch (TCC) and Overdrive Clutch (OD) will be tested each time the PCM requests TCC engagement in 3rd gear and OD.
Set Condition
The DTC will set if the expected RPM drop is not achieved while attempting to engage TCC or OD. This indicates a malfunctioning torque convertor or overdrive clutch.
Possible Causes
* ENGINE DTCS PRESENT
* TRANSMISSION DTCS PRESENT
* TRANSMISSION TEMPERATURE TOO COLD
* OIL PAN CONTAINS EXCESSIVE DEBRIS
* 3-4 SHIFT SOLENOID
* SHAFT OR SEAL DAMAGE
* TCC SOLENOID
* TORQUE CONVERTER
