Stop running it for one. Gas and spark will be a fire in seconds. If its coming out the top hole of the carb. Your float is stuck open. Time to rebuild the carb. Good guess the fuel is clogged and gelled inside. Carb kits are or were cheap. 20 bucks. Instructions inside. And take lots of pictures to show where things were placed to get it back together

SOURCE: 98 GMC starting problems

Take off your gas cap and have someone stand there with thier ear at the hole, (no smoking), turn the key to on just before start and they should hear the fuel pump humming. if they dont then try to start. if it doesnt start turn key off and at that instant the pump should be heard again. What i think is happening is your pump is not energizing . Its supposed to energize when turning your key on and off. This can be caused by a bad fuel pump or pump relay switch. Hope this helps. please rate me

SOURCE: I have a carter carberator it leaks gas out the

Sounds like you may be flooding. That means no inlet control for fuel, so then it just flows out everywhere.

This is sometimes handled by a brisk tap to the float bowl, but really, it is best to open up the carb and see what you find.

My ford F-100 won't idle. It starts, but will die if I take my foot off the gas. Was running rough before, but did not have this problem.

Sounds like a vacuum leak. Take the air breather off. Cup your hand and slightly place it over the carberator. If the motor speeds up and smooths out , find the vacuum leak. Could be a hose, carb gasket, intake gasket . You cane spray starter fluid or WD40 around the intake or carb base gasket.

Why won't my truck run?

check for vacuum leaks . Check for power valve operation . check for choke closing on acceleration. Check timing. Check for coil failing or condenser in distributor failing I would replace the condenser first as it will allow the engine to start but fails at revs.

Strong gas smell inside of car

is there a leak in your fuel line, or possibly your fuel filter, if you see raw gas leaking, then it is dangerous for you tio continue to drive it, it only takes one spark to ignite it, however, if the smell is just your car burning rich and the exhaust has holes in it, it will smell up the inside of your car. And yes if your carb. is burning too rich then it needs adjusted. Wasting your fuel, and overloading your engine. I hope some of this was helpfull.

Engine cuts out like it cant get gas when accelerating, sometimes when at driving speed the car cant get gas , then after a min it runs fine , also trouble starting like it cant get gas...i dont smell...

Depending on year. I would check cheap things first. First check lines for leaks. Replace Fuel Filter with new one. If fuel injected? have fuel injectors checked. If Carberator? Check for Vacuum leaks around the throttle body, Check Intake, and carb itself for leaks. Now i would go ahead and check the Fuel pump. If Injectors? Have the fuel pressure checked. If Carb? Try a new Pump.
You didn't specify what year and model or what engine. So It's kinda hrd to figure it out. but i gave you the basics for all engines.

My 89 toyota pickup 3.0 stalls unless i hold down the gas pedel until it gets warm then it runs fine. i changed the fuel filter and the mass air flow and checked the vaccum hoses for leaks.. Still nothing

hello. Your carberator injectors are partially gummed up. go to any auto parts store and get two cans of a product call seafoam. Follow the directions on the can regarding how much you use per gallon of gas in the tank. After you have run some seafoam through the carberator it will solve your problem.

Coolant fluid leaking below carberator 1989 dodge daytona

May not apply to yours, but I have seen coolant lines routed under intake (actually through plenum below carb)...the idea is to pre-heat and vaporize fuel to prevent "puddling" under carb. If you look at most v8 engines, exhaust is routed the same way, to do the same job. You may need to use a mirror to see under there to determine exactly what's going thats causing leak.
