This is a code related to the air flow from the air pump (aka pollution pump) into your exhaust system. This air pump takes outside air and injects it in the exhaust stream after the engine to help burn off any residual fuel or pollutants. When P0411 comes up, the control module detects a lack of air flow either caused by a defective air pump, leaking/clogged air hoses, or bad check valves.

I WAS TOLD THAT I NEED A NEW MASS AIRFLOW SENSOR IN MY 1998 CADILAC CATERA. I GOT IT OUT NOW I NEED TO KNOW HOW TO TEST IT.

Hello there :
Inspect for dust or contaminants on the sensor: see the picture with the arrow.
Using an ohmmeter, measure the resistance between terminals THA and E2. Resistance: At -20 °C (-4 °F) 13.6 - 18.4 KOhm At 20 °C (68 °F) 2.21 - 2.69 KOhm At 60 °C (140 °F) 0.49 - 0.67 KOhm

Attachment 5512

2. Inspect the intake air flow meter operation.

1. Connect the intake air flow meter connector.
2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
3. Using a voltmeter, connect the positive (+) tester probe to terminal VG, and negative (-) tester probe to terminal E2G.
4. Blow air into the intake air flow meter, and check that the voltage fluctuates.

What does the p0411 p1890 and p1781 mean on a 2001 catera and is it okay to drive til monday til we can get to a mechanic

P0411 is secondary air incorrect flow. THis can be corrected by replacing the air bypass valve, GM # 9192121.

P1890 is the throttle position sensor (input)

P1781 is the engine torque signal circuit.

While driving should be ok I certainly wouldn't embark on a long road trip.

The hot air from your aircon usually has nothing to do with freon. I'm not sure about your particular car but usually there is a 3/4 inch valve near the rear of the engine to regulate hot water flow to the heater radiator under the dash. This valve can sometimes seize up. If it is a vacuum controlled valve, check that the vacuum lines are connected and not split.
