Audi A6 2005 LH Rear Turn Signal & Brake Light Failure

Same deal. After 10 or 15 minutes of driving, warning sound and dashboard text. Shut off the engine (and you can do this while rolling), fire up again, and all is well....for a while.
Problem slowly getting worse.
Audi A6 2005, 60,000 miles, and the latest of a whole list of electrical/electronic problems. I'm considering digging the LED/bulb circuit board out of the trunk and replacing, but I'm not that confident this will really fix the problem, and I hate to think what the cost will be.

I had a problem with rear left side signal brake and reversing lamps not working on my 2007 A6 2.L Tdi SE.( Intermittent fault for 2 months)
I think I have identified the problem.
The seal between the Lens and the bulb plate had allowed moisture into the lamp.
During sunny days the water evaporates and enters the multi pin connector at the rear of the lamp.
On close examination of the connector I noticed minor discolouring of the ground ( Heavy Brown Wire connector Causing intermitting lamp failure )
SOLUTION
I expelled all moisture from the lamp and multi-pin connector.
I removed the neoprene seal from the lamp and refitted it good side up
I cleaned the ground pin on the connector with 600 grade paper and contact cleaner
I put a slight twist in this pin with long nose pliers so as to get better connection.
Lamp is working fine since.
Changing the bulb plate may also work
Great care must be taken when changing bulbs or this problem will reoccur

I've got a 2006 Ford Focus, and recently the rear left indicator has stopped working (I have changed the bulb but the new one(s) don't work either) with the other indicators flashing double quick.

The turn signal lamps on your vehicle are controlled by the GEM - generic electronic module . Have the car checked for DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes . Auto part stores can not check these code's , need a factory or professional type scan tool . These codes (if any) would point to the problem area . They flash faster because the GEM see's a problem and it's a warning indicator something is wrong , they made it like that so you go to the dealer . Principles of Operation
When the multifunction switch is placed in the LH or RH TURN positions, a voltage signal from the GEM is routed to ground. When the GEM detects the multifunction switch in the LH or RH TURN position, the GEM supplies voltage to the appropriate turn lamps in a flashing manner.
When the hazard warning switch is pressed, a voltage signal from the GEM is routed to ground. When the GEM detects a request for the hazard lamps, the GEM supplies voltage to all the turn signal lamps in a flashing manner. When operating correctly, the hazard lamps flash approximately 80 times per minute.

Generic Electronic Module (GEM) Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Index DTC Description Source Action B1499 Lamp Turn Signal Left Circuit Failure GEM Go To Pinpoint Test L . B1503 Lamp Turn Signal Right Circuit Failure GEM Go To Pinpoint Test L . B1875 Turn Signal/Hazard Switch Signal Circuit Failure GEM Go To Pinpoint Test M . B2281 Right Turn Switch Short to Ground GEM Go To Pinpoint Test K . B2282 Left Turn Switch Short to Ground GEM Go To Pinpoint Test K .

All my lights work on my 2005 ford focus except the lower brake lights and turn signals. all fuses are good.

Do you know anything about automotive electronics ?
Stoplamps
The stoplamps are part of the rear lamp assembly. When the brake pedal is applied, the stoplamp switch supplies voltage to the generic electronic module (GEM) and the high mounted stoplamp. The GEM then supplies voltage to the rear lamps.

Turn Signal Lamps and Hazard Warning Lamps
The turn signal lamps and hazard warning lamps system consists of:
  • Hazard switch
  • Multifunction switch
  • GEM
  • Turn signal lamps
When the multifunction switch is placed in the LH or RH turn positions, a voltage signal from the GEM is routed to ground. When the GEM detects the multifunction switch in the LH or RH turn position, the GEM supplies voltage to the appropriate turn lamps in a flashing manner. When operating correctly, the turn lamps flash approximately 80 times per minute.
When the hazard warning switch (located in the upper part of the center console) is switched on, a voltage signal from the GEM is routed to ground. When the GEM detects that the hazard switch is switched on, the GEM supplies voltage to all the turn signal lamps in a flashing manner. When operating correctly, the hazard lamps flash approximately 80 times per minute.

Do you know how to test electrical circuits with a DVOM - digital volt ohm meter , how to read an use a wiring diagram to pin point locations in a electrical circuit for testing B+ voltage an ground ?

Yellow warning indicator lamp of a tringle with an excalmation point in the center and a counterclockwise arrow arround the triangle ---what does it mean?

Check & replace if necessary the brake pedal switch placed above pedals on the support.
If the problem still occurs you might access the ABS & ESP ECU (Electronic Control Unit) using diagnostic equipment connected to the data link connector of the car, in order to pull out all DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) memored.
Then you will be able to replace bad piece(s) and fix the problem by erasing all DTC stocked inside ABS ECU & reset it.
tdisline_516.jpg
The ESP system means the Electronic Stability Program. If the ESP lights on the dashboard permanently the ESP system is faulty. You must access the ESP Electronic Control Unit (ECU) memory for pull out all DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Codes), using diagnostic equipment connected to the data link connector of the car. Then you will be full informed about bad pieces (e.g.: brake pedal switch, front right wheel abs sensor interrupted, ...). After bad pieces replacement you will be able to erase all faults memored by ESP ECU, in other words reset the ESP system and turn off the warning lamp on dashboard.
I'm convinced that your brake pedal switch is faulty because the glow plug warning sign went ON after ESP warning light. Just replace the brake pedal switch, see if rear stop lamps light when press the brake pedal, and test the car on the road.
Good Luck!

Left rear brake light stopped working but bulb and fuses are OK.

take the bulb back out have someone sit in car apply brake get your self a circuit tester and check to see if this circuit is carrying efficient 12 volt current! some times in cold weather these bulbs get hot with long period of breaking and when released condensate and rust begins and you get what you have perhaps bad socket! this would be a ideal location to begin and probably end,
