The "S" light flashing means the speed sensor went out. Is an easy fix. I got mine for less than $40 and it was not hard to install. As for the gears going in too slow, I dont know. Good luck.

You do need another speed sensor. This speed sensor help control shifting also. So you're car will shift funny if it is bad. Replace the sensor and report back if it fixed your problem. Mike.Rate 100% please.

I only have 2nd and 3rd gear in my 1991 honda accord lx

Sounds to me like the shift solenoids on the transmission are bad or need to be cleaned up. They are located on the outside of the transmission case, on the front, straight below where the distributor is. They are in pairs and bolted to the tranny by two or three #10 bolts. There are two pairs on the tranny. You can try cleaning the screens on them or worst case, you may have to replace them to get the tranny to shift normally again.

You have an internal transmission failure, have a transmission repair shop look at this and be prepared to have it removed for repair and rebuilding.

First thing is to make sure you have a fully charged or good battery. If Ok
Use scanner and read codes.
Depending on what codes tell you do the testing and repair required .
Right now your TCS is not operable and the transmission is only operating in third gear.
Get back to me with the codes and we will take it from there. This could be anything from wheel sensors to shift solenoids,

1991 Honda Accord transmission problems

You have a bad transmission control module (TCM). It is under the passenger side front floor mat. You can get rebuilt units off Ebay, whatever you do, don't get a used one! They are all bad. If you know anybody that does electronic repairs, you can have them replace the big 220 uf capacitor on the PC board in the TCM. It's a two dollar part and a ten minute job but you have to know what you're doing.
