Can't disengage park brake in 2005 jaguar s-type . Checked fuses ( I guess I got them all that would pertain to the parkbrake). Disconnected and reconnected battery. No luck. Car just raises up in front & back when I accelerate. How do you "reset" the parkbrake? I relaly can't afford a large repair bill right now!! Thanks, KC

the 3 main issues with jag electronic park brake faults are 1st the sliders in the rear caliper frames sieze up which tells the park brake module that the travel is excessive and turns it off 2nd the wiring to the park brake motor chaffes on the rear subrame. 3rd the park brake motor fails. try a battery reset by disconnect the -v battery terminal for a couple of mins. reconnect and work parkbrake on/off to recalibrate, if it still comes on parkbrake failure then try the other poss faults, hope this helps
the most likeley cause is the rear pads siezed in the caliper frames, when you apply the electronic park brake it detects incorrect travel and disables the park brake.check that first.the park brake motor is also suspect. you should really get the fault codes out of the parkbrake module to help diagnose yhis issue.
I had this problem recently on my 00 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo. I had to put it up on a jack, remove the wheel, take the brake pad housing off, and manually force the piston back into the caliper. It could be dirt in your break lines or that the cable just is rusted in a spot and got snagged somewhere. I hope this helps.
check wiring and connector above rear subframe it can rub through on subframe and short out if poss.check dtc,s in parkbrake module if fault cde motor current excessive before travel reached is logged check fulcrum levers on rear calipers are not siezed and return to stops when released if ok suspect park brake motor fault
Try a reset of the park brake.
Make sure you have your radio code.!!
Disconnect the battery - leave for 10 Min's.
Reconnect.
Turn ignition on. If fault has not reset - try the following
Apply foot brake (not too hard)
Apply park-brake switch following instructions on the message center.
Use this method for any park brake fault as most of the time it fixes the minor problems caused by glitches and low battery voltage.
hope this helps good luck
A common fault on these cars, Often caused by low battery voltage. To reset -
Disconnect battery (make sure you have your radio code!) leave for 10 mins. then reconnect and apply foot brake and then park brake as per instructions on message center and the brake will recalibrate itself. Use this method first on any park brake fault - as 95% of the time it fixes them.
Hope this helps - good luck.
Do you mean 'parking brake fault' This message can sometimes appear with low battery causing the electronic park brake to lose its calibration.
To recalibrate it disconnect your battery and leave for 10 Min's. then reconnect and with the ignition on apply the foot brake and whilst keeping applied switch the parking brake on. then release the foot brake turn ignition off - on and the handbrake fault message should be gone and the parking brake should release as you drive off. IMPORTANT - make sure you have you radio code as you will need this after a battery disconnect.
when you replaced the pads did you make sure that the sliders were free if they are partially siezed it gives the the signal to the parkbrake module that the movement is excesive , but also at your model/year there was a prob with the parkbrake motor going bad or the wiring to it chaffed on the rear subframe try to get the fault codes out of the parkbrake module using a obd2 code reader that may have the clue to recalibrate the parkbrake disconnect the battery for 10 mins reconnect apply footbrake with ign. on and work parkbrake on/off 3or4 times
