Was riding today an my check engine light came on so I went right home an ran a diagnostic an it came up a code P1552 which is a cooling fan issue an short somewhere

The fan doesn't shut off after the engine is stopped so I'm wondering if that's actually a short somewhere and the other thing is would that actually make my check engine light come on?

Yes it would make the check engine light come on because the fan is controlled by the computer and if it's not shutting off then there's a a sensor that is not telling the computer shut off the fan temperature cooling sensor

Testimonial: "Ok thank you very much I will definitely look into it ... I’m just learning this bike never owned this particular type so I’m a little unfamiliar with where everything is located so this may sound like a strange question but where would the sensor be located?"

Sorry I’m on my phone lol I posted in the wrong place but again yes I will definitely look into it and when you can get the rest of it from the testimonial part anyway One other question would it be safe to ride the bike from my home to my mechanic which is approximately like 9 miles away from my home without causing any other issues? As I’m unsure Where the sensors would actually be located on this particular motorcycle.

The fan is to prevent the engine overheating. Should be a problem for a short ride. The sensor will likley be on the engine block somewhere.

There is likely to be an electric thermostat / sensor which switches a relay to start the fan if the engine temp reaches a set point. Its possible the either the relay or the sensor has failed causing the fan to stay on.

My Honda VTX is a radiator cooled motorcycle I had the same problem there's a temp switch the kicks the fan on and off my switch was bad .

the purge valve i believe is located near your gas tank unless theyve moved it i should look like a little canister cyclinder shaped. both codes could be set off by the same problem. try replacing the valve.

Each fan will throw a different code. See 3 fans listed for your model. Here's a link for the wiring schematic: http://www.chiltonlibrary.com/content/images/WD/GM/014/WD_GM_014788.pdf

Driveabilty issue with a 1989 Pontiac Lemans 1.6L 4spd. Last week car died and would not restart. Towed it home, put in my Bosch OBD1 diagnostic. Showed code 13 and code 42.

It may not be the ECM - could be the program memory chip acting up, which happens more often than you would think with older vehicles. Also, the ignition coil could be your problem, or intermittent low fuel pressure (consider a new regulator).
