If the wiper blades have been taken off the pivot posts, they may not have gone back into the correct position. I would take them off , turn the wipers on and then turn them off. The pivots should then return to their off position. Refit the wiper blades in the correct "stop" position.

How do you reset the windshield wipers to the start position on a 97 camero? The stop In the middle off the window when turned off.

Pull off the wiper arms when the motor has turned off and the wipers at rest. Realign the arms in the position desired and do a test with a mist of water on the glass. The gear alignment is critical to the way the arm rests when in operation and when at rest.

Open the rear window and push the arm past its usual position against the window. It may restore the the tension. However, You likely need a new wiper arm, you could also try lubricating the pivot point.

My windshield wipers turn on but only go half way and then stop. Then the motor sounds like it is grinding but the wipers won't return to the resting position or won't continue their cycle.

sounds like the gears inside the wiper motor are gone. replace the wiper motor and be sure to check the nylon bushing on the wiper control arms for wear.

'88 blazer wipers do not work

Same thing happened to my '87 Chevy S-10 pickup, so it's probably the same part. The wiper motor froze, and because it's direct geared to the wipers, they don't move unless it does.

Remove the wiper motor, reposition the wipers to their resting position, then reinstall a new wiper motor.
