On every "V" engine, the heads are bolted to the block in the configuration where one head is slightly forward of the other. The head that is the farthest forward, and the front cylinder of that head will be #1. I suppose I should add that on FWD vehicles, it would be the cylinder toward the front of the engine since they are sideways! This is a good rule of thumb.

SOURCE: firing orde ford 6 cyl f-150 truck distributer to spark plugs

you didn't say if you have the straight 6 or v 6.But i'll give the order for both.
The 4.9L straight 6 is 1-5-3-6-2-4----------- distributor rotor turning clockwise, and #1 plug is the first plug.
On the 3.0 and 4.2 V6 engines is 1-4-2-5-3-6-------#1 plug is the first plug on driver side---- facing engine.

Code p0316

Code 316 is an extension of your Code 304. 316 means its misfiring in the first 1000 RPM's and 304 means number 4 cylinder is the problem cylinder.
Could be a bad wire, coil, or sparkplug.

What is compression suppose to be on 1988 ford 250xlt 351 winser

180 psi is good, but depends on the life of the engine, if yours is 150 psi all the rest of the cylinders have to be within 20% of the highest compression cylinder, so your allowed 120 psi on one of the other cylinders, it takes 80 psi to fire the cylinder anything less it will not fire.

Firing order ford 351w

1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8, distributor rotates counter clockwise
Ford cylinders are numbered 1-4 from front of right bank, 5-8 from front of left bank as you look from the back of the engine. Cylinder numbers may be marked on the intake manifold. Firing order may be marked there too.
