Ey, I just bought a used 2005 Audi A8 in beautiful looking condition with meticulous service records. It only has 69,000 miles on it and just has a $2000+ service at 65,000 which gave it new tires, new brakes, new timing belt, engine clean etc... When I start the car the "service!" message comes up on the dash but no other lights indicating problems. In the owners manual it says that that only happens when the car has reach 10,000 miles or 1 year since the last service, as long as there are no other lights/messages coming up on the dash. Leads me to believe that the computer/service tracking system simply wasn't reset at that last service but just checking to see if anyone had any other thoughts? If all it is is a reset issue, how would I go about that? Thank you!
Go to any compitant mechanic and get it turned off, otherwise buy diagnostic machines from Amazon and do it yourself.
Possibly reset issue.
Google "D3 service interval reset" for instructions.
It is probably through the menu system.
Service interval mileage is also selectable on A8's through the menu system. I very much doubt anyone has altered this.

My mechanic said that the front cxygen sensors needed to be replaced on my 03.

You need to take it to dealer or use a VagCom tool.

I have a 2004 Silverado with the same problem.
After scrollng the internet for months and reading every manual I could get my hands on, I found, for me, a quick and easy way. Open the hood, remove the cover to the Underhood Fuse Block on the drivers side of the vehicle near the battery.
If you have the manual for your truck, go to page 5-126 and locate the fuse that says IPC/DIC, it is a 10 amp fuse.
Pull the fuse and start your truck or a few sceonds.
You will notice that nothing on your insterment will work.
Turn engine off and replace fuse.
After I did this, the message did not come back, and started my truck about 15 times to make sure.
It worked for me....good luck to you.
SOURCE: message system reads "engine system maintenance required"
WHAT HAPPENED IS WHEN YOU SHUT DOWN AND RESTARTED YOU (RESET THE ENGINE MANAGEMENT COMPUTER) AND THE SERVICE LIGHT SHOULD GO OUT AFTER 10 MINUTES OF DRIVING
SOURCE: Does the 2007 Malibu have a timing chain or belt?
Your vehicle is equipped with a timing chain. There is no periodic maintenance schedule fr the timing chain.
If your spark plugs have never been changed, now might be a perfect opportunity to change them. Ensure that you properly gap the plugs before installation. You will find gap specs on the engine information tag/sticker under the hood.
