Subaru Legacy Wagon 4WD engine does not fire up

Hi Reese, what do you mean by "won't turn over"? Does the engine rotate but not fire, or does it not even rotate? If it won't rotate, perhaps your alternator belt was loose or worn and the battery didn't get charged. If the battery is good and the engine rotates, then the alternator has possibly died. The other possibility, is that the fuel pump had died.

check fluid/filter..it may be clogged..

Sounds like a short on a abs or emergency brake sensor since that would cause the brake light to be triggered also cause a sudden drop in voltage which would trigger the battery light could also be a bad ground at the battery

Sounds like you have a broken belt for the alternator and power steering.

pay close attention to the fuel filter as this is a common symptom and sign of blockage and poor fuel delivery....replace fuel filter

I have the same problem with my 86 GL 4WD. One day it started to turn, and then lost all power. I couldn't even turn on the lights. I have played with the ignition switch wires, and gotten it to fire. I think there may be a short somewhere in the switch or the wires to the harness, but I have not isolated it yet. You might check your ignition switch and wiring...
