How to change starter on 2006 malibu

Welcome to Fixya

Raise the front of the car then slide under the driver's side of the car and locate the starter on the engine where it meets the bell housing. Unplug the "S" connector from the terminal on the starter and lay it aside. Remove the nut from the "B" terminal with a wrench, then remove the battery cable from the starter. Locate the mounting bolts and loosen it. Slide the new starter then tighten the bolts.

My 99 chevy malibu takes a while to start. it sounds like its trying to catch but it takes a couple of tries. someone told me it was the starter. does that sound right?is so where would it be located?

define trying to catch. is the engune turning over but sounding like it may start then finally does? or does the starter spin but the engine is not turning unless you turn the key to start a few times if it is the latter it could very well be the starter. check to see if you have an oil leak onto the starter. if it very greasey then you will need to adress the oil leak too. the starter is located on the lower right side of the engine. (passanger side.)
