You wont fine one because There is no dipstick. The transmission is equipped with a check plug on the transmission behind the engine underneath and design for professional service technician. the engine has to be running and the plug removed with transmission being level. SOURCE: Cant find the power steering

In 2006 Pontiac put ELECTRIC power steering in the G6's.

Your looking under the hood in the right location its just under that. its all electrical. Must have been not such a good idea because they switched back to normal power steering in 2007.

(I have an 06 G6 V6)

I recently purchased a n 08 G6 convertible. After 5 months the power steering hose had burned through, leaving me w/o power steering on the interstate. It was replaced and I drove it another 10 days and...

contact GM for a recall notice but I suspect that the first hose was too short and touched the manifold. A simple fix would be to get the new hose made longer and route the hose away from the heat source. Talk to a hydraulic hose maker and some do house calls. Show them the problem and tell them what you want done as a fix.

2005 Pontiac g6 thermostat is reading 200 and I only drive a mile down the road ... What could this be?

ased on General Motors' lengthened "Epsilon" platform, the Pontiac G6 was produced from 2005-'09 as a sedan, coupe and retractable-hardtop convertible. For '05, only the sedan was offered; the coupe and convertible debuted a year later. Three main trim levels were offered on the sedan: base, GT and GTP (which became the GXP in '08). Coupes were either GTs or GTP/GXPs, convertibles GT only. Plenty of standard features, such as air-conditioning, full power accessories and CD audio, came on the base model. The GT added niceties such as an upgraded Monsoon audio system. The GXP topped the range with items like sporty exterior styling tweaks and automatic climate control.
At the time of Pontiac's demise, the G6's engine lineup included a base 2.4-liter four (164 horsepower), a 3.5-liter V6 (219 hp), a 3.9-liter V6 available on the convertible only (222 hp) and the GXP's 3.6-liter V6 (252 hp). Four-speed automatics were standard with all except the GXP's V6, which got a six-speed; however, the four-cylinder got an optional six-speed for 2009 that raised highway fuel economy to a laudable 33 mpg. Some power ratings were a bit lower in previous years, notably the 3.5-liter V6, and a manual transmission was available on a limited basis until '08.
In reviews we found that the Pontiac G6 offered generous room for those riding in back, no matter the body style. And we noted that after years of enduring criticism about its overstyled exteriors and gimmicky interior designs, Pontiac stepped up its efforts with the G6. Outside, the G6 had a crisp and sleek look; inside, there was a restrained and attractive layout with none of the traditional dull gray plastic switches. Even so, the G6 still had a few too many cheap plastic surfaces for our tastes.
On the road, we appreciated the low and midrange torque of the 3.5-liter V6, and the ride was smooth. The convertible's optional 3.9-liter V6 should be avoided if possible, though -- it was barely more powerful than the 3.5-liter V6 and got worse fuel economy. Handling was respectable, but we disliked the electric power steering, which was too light and offered virtually no feedback. GT models from 2007 and up had an improved hydraulic steering setup, which we preferred. Along with the enhanced feature content of the later models, we'd recommend focusing your used Pontiac G6 search on the '07 or newer models.

Wer to put power stiring on a 2006 g6

As long as the car is not over 160000 Km GM should fix it they where a recall on them for the Pontiac g6. GM Acknowledges Power Steering Problem On Cars48 Percent Of Steering Complaints Filed Are For GM Cars

Forty-eight percent of steering complaints filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration are for GM cars.

More than a million cars made by General Motors on the road right now can potentially lose power steering. There have been accidents and injuries because of it. CBS 2 Investigator Dave Savini looked into the problem months ago. Now, GM is finally taking action.

Beverly Sinkular owns a 2006 Pontiac G6. She says the power steering repeatedly fails. One time, her granddaughter was in the car when she lost control of the wheel and was nearly in an accident.

"I was struggling with it," she said.

That is when she began having serious concerns that her power steering malfunction might happen to other Pontiac G6 owners. She was right.

CBS 2's investigative team uncovered hundreds of G6 owners with power steering failures. We discovered that 439 steering complaints involving the 2006 Pontiac G6 have been filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

The reports were filled with complaints of repeated power steering failures; drivers losing control of their vehicles; accidents, and even injuries.

Owners complain the car is dangerous, repair costs are not being covered, and they say a recall is needed.

"It's just a horrible thing for anyone to have to go through," Sinkular said.

When CBS 2 showed Sinkular the giant pile of G6 complaints, she asked, "Why isn't Pontiac doing something about it?"

Before contacting CBS 2, Sinkular says she went to her dealership and was told her power steering malfunction was an isolated failure. She was forced to pay $630 to get it fixed.

"They told me that it wasn't a recall and I was no longer under warranty, so therefore, it's my bill," she said.

Sinkular thinks there may be more G6 model years affected. Her neighbor has experienced similar problems, except with his 2009 model. The man, who does not want to be identified, says his power steering has not gone out yet, but the warning light goes off intermittently.

When asked if she believed an investigation was warranted, Sinkular responded, "Absolutely."

CBS 2 contacted GM about Sinkular's case, as well as the hundreds of other complaints we found.

A spokesman acknowledged that there have been steering problems since the company switched from a hydraulic to an electric system, and admits that 48 percent of steering complaints filed with NHTSA are for GM cars.

The GM spokesman also said there is no safety issue because the cars can be controlled during power steering failures.

However, to satisfy customers, they are extending the warranty on 1.1 million cars, so if the power steering fails, the repair costs will be covered. Letters to vehicle owners are being mailed by GM.

In Sinkular's case, GM refunded her repair cost, but she is still concerned.

"I'm afraid that there's going to be a terrible, terrible accident with it," she said.

The extended warranties will cover the 2005, 2006 and 2008 models of the Pontiac G6, Chevrolet Malibu and Malibu Maxx; the 2008 Saturn Aura and the 2004-2007 Saturn ION.

The previous safety recall from February 2010 covers the 2005-2010 Chevrolet Cobalt; 2007-2010 Pontiac G5; 2005-2006 Pontiac Pursuit (Canada), and 2005-2006 Pontiac G4 (Mexico).

06 G6 power Steering kicking in on right turns

GM has an open recall on steering columns and steering motors for these vehicles if they have less then 100000 miles on them and have electronic assisted steering. You may want to contact your local GM dealership to see if your vehicle qualifies. There have also been issues with the rack and pinions on these vehicles but would follow the recall option first.
