Yesterday the shifter button would not disengage and the key got stuck in the ignition. I pushed the emergency key release button inside the steering column to get it out. Today I drove my car and when I went to park I could not get the car out of drive. I can go to I L D and Neutral, but I cannot go into Reverse or Park. I have to put the car in Neutral, set the emergency brake, turn the key off as far as it will go, push the emergency key release button and then manually unlock the door locks to get out of my car. If this in not recalled it should be. I know that the 2009's are being recalled for a similar problem, and I read hear that there is a pin in the gear shifter cable that is falling out. Is that what is really happening? How can this get this recalled? My husband read about many others that are having similar problems.
There is a factory TSB (technical service bulletin) on this but I'm not sure on the recall, good luck with that.

SOURCE: Key stuck in ignition
This is a VERY common problem and there is a campaign though I am not sure it ever made it to full recall. The ultimate answer is to have the ignition switch replaced. In the meantime, you'll need to be able to get that key out. On the bottom side of the steering column there is a one inch square rubber plug that you pry out. You can then use your pointer finger to push the switch in. This will release the lock and let you turn your key to the off position and remove. You may want to leave this plug out as you'll be doing this a lot until it is repaired.

It's a linkage adjustment on the bottom of the vehicle, or the pointer has broken loose from the steering column collar under the steering wheel.
You can sometimes crawl underneath the vehicle to figure out what needs to be adjusted if the problem is down there.

There is a pin that goes thru the shift cable that is falling out. The next thing that will happen is the key will get stuck in the ignition. I took the plastic off of the sides of the console you will see a black plastic frame with holes in it I cut a larger hole between 2 of the small holes with a hack saw on the driver side. Put the car in neutral seat all the way back pull on the shift button and you will see the pin pull it out with a pair of neelde nose pliers. I put 598 black loctite sealant on mine and reinstall. Shift back to park if you can get the key out and the doors unlock you have the pin in the right spot and it is making both switches when in park. It sticks out about a 1/2" on each side. Good luck

I had the same problem and once I wiggled the shifter enough to get it out of park then the key stuck in the ignition started.

What you might want to try is go to the dealers parts department. Ask about the part number your mom bought. See if the number is the same as the 2009. Now part of the number series may indicate 06,07,08, and so on but a book called the "OSI" (means obsolete, supercede, interchange) would list replacements.
If you get good information it would be hard to deny your mom a reimbursement. Especially if the part she paid for is the free replacement on 2009"s.
