SOURCE: Front driver seat adjustments.
I just had this problem fixed with a Tech 2 tool in my '03 yukon xl denali. The seat has a control module underneath of it that controls the 2-position memory, the power seat functions, etc. It needed to be reprogrammed - about $200 at the dealership, or free if you 1) have a good relationship with your service manager, or 2) own or know someone with a Tech 2 tool.
At first I thought it was because I had a Canadian model truck (the headlight switch is stuck "on" at all times no matter what position it's in, and the rear air controls are in celcius and not farenheight).
I'm assuming the switch worked before, and you may have encountered some sort of electrical issue (like a dead battery, or you gave someone a jump, you have a bad ground, you just installed an aftermarket stereo, you used a computer tuner, etc.).
Hope this helps!

Check all fuses and relays. Sounds to me like one is blown.

if you hear a clicking sound from under the seat when trying to move backward then its not the switch. check the motor instead

It is likely the gear on the motor came off track with the seat. The seat will have to be removed and bottom panel disassembled.

Perhaps an item got caught under the seat and possibly affected the linkage wire between rail tracks.A small linkage wire trips the console side track.Without this, that particular track will not disengage.Look under the good working passenger side seat and you might notice this linkage wire.It will then give you an opportunity to see if it works well on the inop seat. You can pull that wire(or trip that linkage arm by hand if you are in a dilemma and need the seat moved in order to drive but use caution on these moving parts and dont get pinched.
