I have a 2003 Nissan Altima 2.5s the Engine light is on it’s been on since I bought it back in March. When I bought it the second day the alternator went out I went to the junkyard got another alternator a few months later the fuel pump went out went to the junkyard got another fuel pump then starter went out went to the junkyard got another starter and solenoid. The other day the car stopped working out of nowhere put it in park tried to start it up couple hours later and it wouldn’t start. For a week I’ve been trying to work on it myself someone told me the crankshaft position sensor. So I wanna head and I bought brand new crankshaft position sensor and a camshaft position sensor replaced both car still wouldn’t start so I bought new spark plugs car still doesn’t start I replaced the valve canister purge thing, then the evap service hose I had noticed the vacuum hose was off I put it back on. Still no start then I noticed the ignition condenser was hanging around the spark plugs I bearly lifted it up and it broke from the base. So I went to the junk yard and cut off another came back and spliced the wires together. It started this time and died automatically with in secs. I’d put it into the one position for a little while sometimes a couple minutes sometimes a few seconds and then I will try to crank it up sometimes it will come on and then die automatically again . Someone told me that it could be the fuel pump going out since the fuel pump was a used fuel pump out of a junkyard. I noticed when I took the ignition Condenser cap off it had this stuff in it looks dirty to me but idk. Is that normal? I have spent a week almost every day working on this car I need this to be figured out I don’t know what else to do or what else it could be

Best way is to check fuel pressure is at the line valve with pressure gauge ..average person's ..no tools test .. is this ....turn key on ..listen for fuel pump to buzz ..or Hum..meaning it's working ..if no noise is herd . ..could be bad fuel pump relay .test with ohm meter ...or fuel pump ..check spark plugs for spark..if you have no spark at plugs ..and no fuel pressure ..check ignitchion relay ......distributor pickup can also cause this ..

If the ignition coil on the# 1 plug it won't start but just turn over. Start with the simple tune up & it sounds like you got a 4 wheel money pit.

SOURCE: Problem continues from early July

Hello and welcome to FixYa!

Yes that's what I suspect after reading your problem. This is common issue specially when the fuel pump in tank is bout to reach it's break point. I strongly suggest that you have the fuel pump replaced to resolve the issue. Please do check your fuel too, if there are visible rust or dirt please make sure that you drain it out for it can clog the fuel lines.

Hope this helps and thank you for using Fixya! Have a good one!

When i try to start my 2003 2.5 altima i have to

3 to 5 seconds is not really excessive. You might, however, want to try this...depress the gas petal to the floor then turn the ignition while slowly raising you foot off the accelerator. If this helps start the car the check engine light is probably indicating an oxegen sensor problem.

The battery light and brake light and engine noise on my 2003 Nissan Altima.

Hello and thank you for using FixYa!

When those 2 lights come on, it's normally a alternator not charging properly. I would have it checked to verify.

Thanks Jay!

2003 Nissan Altima 2.5S, Check Engine Light Problem.

this problem could be caused by the mass air flow censor, i had the same problem with my car. it is really pricey at the dealer so you might want to check elsewhere for this part. I found one at a scrap yard for 85% less that the dealer and i also got life time warranty, the dealer does not offer any warranty on this part.
