I did this once on an old Toyota land cruiser. The problem was I was on a hard surface and the gears were fighting each other. I had to move b4 I could shift out of 4wd. But I could shift drive gears.
I would try moving truck manually till you can get it out of 4wd.

SOURCE: front drive train or axles?

Welcome to fixya

could be one of those but lets hope not it could also be the front bearings if it is the bearings it runs around 300 to fix if it is drive train or axles your talking a lot more money

OH check the break pads just thought of that if the pads are low it will make a noise to pull wheels off and check breaks first

hope this helps you out have a good day :)

SOURCE: won't go into gear to drive. may be transmission?

If the clutch has never been changed most likely it is that. The way you can check it is by removing the transmission and looking at the clutch disc. It could be transmission syncros but I am willing to bet you just need a new clutch.

Grinding when turning key on to start ignition

Dodges have a gear reduction in the starter, usually. It could be wearing out. Have it checked out at a rebuild shop.

I have a 2002 Chrysler Town and Country van. While driving, the van gave a couple of sudden jerks. Shortly after, a very loud grinding noise and the loss of drive train. Now I have no reverse or forward...

Yes a CV joint could cause it. Look under the car with someone putting it in gear. If any of the shafts are turning it is a joint if not the diff in the transmission is gone. Good luck.

Shift the transfer case to N while it is making the noise. If the noise goes away the transfer case is the culprit.

TAPPING NOISE, NOW IT WON'T GO INTO GEAR WITHOUT LOUD GRINDING NOISE AND ACTS LIKE TRANSMISSION WON'T ENGAGE TO DRIVE

If it is an automatic transmission, first check the fluid level. If it is low, fill it up and try it again. If the level is fine, then there is a bigger issue and you should seek a professional's help.

I have a 2000 dodge ram 1500, whenever i put in gear- drive or reverse i hear loud noises in back of truck

Sounds to me like you need to check your universal joints,or the backlash in the rearend, universals would be the most likely caiuse of the noise.

My front transfer case on my 1997 Ram 1500 is

If you've been 4X4 driving a lot it could be that your gears are binding up . Meaning . . if you've ever had your vehicle locked in 4 and decided to hit pavement without unlocking, ( even if it was only a short distance, ie: a block or to), your gears have a bind on them which in time will really cause major problems. Starting with being hard to get into and out of 4WD and grinding noises. there are a few other things it could be instead but starting with this no cost attempt to finding out, I suggest you try it. You might be suprised. Put the truck in neutral . Jack up the front and rear of the truck and secure withjack stands. the wheels should give up what bind there is at that point.
