Belt is better replace either about every 100.000 or you'll destroy the engine when it goes out

Belt is Better because it's easier to replace, therefore much cheaper

Chain is inside and in the oil bath so harder= more expensive

By the way. dealer says replace every 60K . 100K is a MAXIMUM

Timing chains are overall more reliable, and never require replacement. Timing belts on the other hand run much quieter and are easily replaced.
Timing belts should be replaced every 60-90 thousand miles depending on driving conditions and climate.

Honda accord service b14

Major caveat to joserivera34's answer: For "B4" it depends on if the car has a belt or chain. The Accord V4 has a chain and therefore there is no timing belt replacement. The V6 has a belt.

My wife drove my 1992 Honda Accord for approximately 4-5 miles with oil light on. Turns out the car was leaking.leaking its oil from timing chain area. Is there any engine damage?

Possibly, but I'd replace the leaking gasket/seal.
Also note, the Honda uses a timing belt (not a chain), and you don't want oil on the belt. If there's a chance the belt has gotten oil on it, you want to take the timing belt cover off, remove the belt, and clean all the oil covered parts. The oil can wear out the belt as well as cause the belt to slip timing

Idols high when first started... Sounds like a diesel when I let off the gas...

2000 Honda accord 3.0 or VTEC 2.3 or 2.3 get that timing belt check if anything its stretching. (by the way timing will have 2 belt the balancer especially)

WHEN DOES THE TIMING BELT FOR A 2004 HONDA ACCORD GET REPLACED?

It depends on the engine. The 4 cylinder engine uses a timing chain, and is generally replaced every 150,000 miles (Honda doesn't give a specific interval) with the water pump (driven off of the timing chain) and timing gears. On the V6 engine, you have a regular rubber/steel belt, and it is supposed to be replaced every 105,000 miles, according to Honda. The water pump is driven off the belt as well, and should be inspected or replaced. (I recommend replacing the water pump anyway, just to save yourself any future trouble)

Does my honda accord 2.2 diesel have a timing belt or chain its a 54 plate 78000 miles

Yes, it does have a timing belt.
Most peoplerecommend getting your water pump and timing belt every 100,000 miles, but i would take it to a mechanic and see if he believes it should be replaced. be weary though it does cost a lot, and some people will jump on this oppertunity like a shark on chum Some sites will sell 100,000 mile kits for cars. but its not a DYI job inless you know your way around a car.

Timing belt on Accord 2004 v6 models

2003 and up Honda Accord with 4 cylinder engines do indeed have a chain and the V6 has a belt which must be replaced at 110,000 miles. Why? Ask Honda, they designed the engines.

Timing chain or belt for a 2004 Honda Accord

It depends, 4cyl. is a chain, the 6cyl. is a belt and it is an interference engine. I have not done this one yet, but Hondas are never that easy.
