Most likely there is an issue with the air intake, such as a leak or poorly installed intake.

What causes the P0106 code? The MAP circuit for range and performance problem may have several causes:

  • The source of the problem is that the MAP sensor range voltage output is incorrect and out of the programmed input required by the ECU.
  • The most common problem is an air intake system vacuum or intake hose being loose, cracked, or missing it's plastic fittings and clamps.
  • The wiring or MAP sensor may be bad, brittle, cracked, have a bad connection, or could be too close to the higher voltage consumption components, especially alternators, ignition wires, etc. A poor electrical ground can cause problems also.
  • The sensor itself may simply be operating out of range from fatigue in it's internal components.
  • MAP sensors must operate within specific ranges to send correct signals for the ECU to coordinate with the throttle position sensor and adjust correctly for proper engine operation.
  • If the engine is not in good condition, is missing, has poor fuel pressure, or there is an internal issue with the engine like a burned valve, it can prevent the MAP sensor from getting a correct output.
  • The ECU could also be bad but that is rare.
What are the symptoms of the P0106 code? P0106 code will be generally preceded by the Check Engine Light coming on the dashboard display. The vehicle in most cases will not run well, idle poorly, accelerate erratically, run rich, and backfire because the MAP sensor and throttle position sensor will not operate together properly.
How does a mechanic diagnose the P0106 code? P0106 is diagnosed with an OBD- II scanner. A qualified technician should then reset the OBD- II fault codes and perform a road test of the vehicle to see if the code comes back. He can observe this by watching live data streaming on his scanner while driving. If the code comes back, then the mechanic will need to do a close inspection to see if the vacuum line and other hoses on the intake system are missing, loose, damaged, or disconnected. If these things appear to be correct, the technician should do a voltage output test on the sensor while the engine is running to determine if the output voltages fluctuate with engine speed and load on the engine. Check that all grounds are operating correctly, since any ground related to the ECU could cause signal fluctuations from sensors.
Common mistakes when diagnosing the P0106 code. Diagnostic errors are largely due to not following the proper procedure. First, follow the test procedure in the diagnosis to insure there is no intake air leak like a bad vacuum hose or connection. The technician must verify that the voltage output of the MAP sensor is correct and fluctuates with the engine speed and proper voltage. Idle voltage is normally 1 to 1.5 volts and full throttle is usually around 4.5 volts.
Do not buy a new MAP Sensor or ECU unless it is clearly at fault.

SOURCE: i have a 2004 Isuzu Axiom, my check engine light

You may have actually had a faulty MAP that needed replace. Thing is that any time you get a "check engine", the cruise will be disabled. you must clear the code, by either a trouble code diagnostic tool, or disconnect the battery for about five minutes. Codes will clear, and cruise will start working again.

What is a solution to fixing the mass air flow system, with code po121

DTC P0121: Throttle Position (TP) Sensor 1 Performance
Circuit/System Description
The engine control module (ECM) uses the following information to calculate an expected airflow rate:
?€¢
The throttle position (TP)

?€¢
The barometric pressure (BARO)

?€¢
The manifold absolute pressure (MAP)

?€¢
The intake air temperature (IAT)

?€¢
The engine RPM

P0121 The predicted air flow and the predicted MAP combined are outside a calibrated range for more than 3 seconds.
Circuit/System Testing

  1. Inspect for the following conditions:
  2. ?€¢
Vacuum hoses for splits, kinks, and proper connections as shown on Vehicle Emission Control Information label

    ?€¢
Inspect thoroughly for any type of leak or restriction

    ?€¢
Air leaks at throttle body mounting area and intake manifold sealing surfaces

    ?€¢
Throttle body for dirt, debris, and coking--Refer to Throttle Body Cleaning.

  3. Allow the engine to reach operating temperature. Observe the MAP Sensor Voltage parameter with a scan tool. Voltage should be more than 0.8 volt and less than 4 volts.
  4. ?‡'
If more than 4 volts or less than 0.8 volt, refer to DTC P0106.

  5. Idle the engine. Observe the MAP Sensor kPa parameter with a scan tool. Increase the engine speed slowly and then back to idle. The MAP sensor kPa should change smoothly and gradually as engine speed is increased and returned to idle.
  6. ?‡'
If the MAP sensor kPa does not change, refer to DTC P0106.

  7. Take a snapshot of the engine data list while performing the actions listed below. The mass air flow (MAF) sensor g/s should change smoothly and gradually as the engine speed is increased and is returned to idle.
  8. ?€¢
    Idle the engine.

    ?€¢
Increase the engine speed slowly to 3,000 RPM, then back to idle.

    ?€¢
Exit from the snapshot and review the data.

    ?€¢
Observe the Mass Air Flow (MAF) Sensor parameter frame by frame with a scan tool. The MAF sensor g/s should change smoothly and gradually as the engine speed is increased and is returned to idle.

    ?‡'
If the MAF sensor g/s does not change smoothly and gradually as the engine speed is increased and is returned to idle, refer to DTC P0101 or P1101.

  9. Inspect the throttle body for the following conditions:
?€¢
Loose or damaged throttle blade

?€¢
Broken throttle shaft

?€¢
Any throttle body damage

?‡'
If any of these conditions exist, replace the throttle body assembly.

What is p0106?

Hi there:
This is a MAP sensor code (manifold absolute pressure). the code is for performance. you need to check the sensor and make sure its pluged in, and that the vacuum hose going to the sensor is also connected and not pinched or restricted.

DTC P0106 - MAP/Barometric Pressure Circuit Range/Performance Problem
The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) uses the Manifold Absolute Pressure Sensor (MAP) to monitor engine load. (NOTE: Some vehicles have a Barometric Pressure (BARO) sensor that is integral to the Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor and do not have a MAP sensor. Other vehicles have a MAF/BARO and a redundant MAP sensor where the MAP sensor functions as a backup input in case of MAF failure.) The PCM supplies a 5 Volt reference signal to the MAP sensor. Usually the PCM also supplies a ground circuit to the MAP sensor as well. As the manifold pressure changes with load, the MAP sensor input informs the PCM. At idle the voltage should be 1 to 1.5 Volts and approximately 4.5 Volts at Wide Open Throttle (WOT). The PCM looks for any change in manifold pressure to be preceded by a change in engine load in the form of changes in throttle angle, engine speed, or Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) flow. If the PCM doesn't see any of these factors change while detecting a rapid change in MAP value, it will set a P0106.

The following could be symptomatic of a P0106:Engine runs roughBlack smoke at tailpipeEngine will not idlePoor fuel economyEngine misses at speed

A P0106 could be caused by:Bad MAP sensorWater/dirt intrusion affecting MAP sensor connectorIntermittent open in the reference, ground, or signal wire for the MAP sensorIntermittent short in the reference, ground, or signal wire for the MAP sensorGround problem due to corrosion causing intermittent signal problemA break in the flexible air intake duct between the MAF and the intake manifoldBad PCM (do not assume the PCM is bad until you've exhausted all other possibilities)

Possible Solutions:Using a scan tool, watch the MAP sensor value with the key on, engine off. Compare the BARO reading with the MAP reading. They should be roughly equal. The voltage for the MAP sensor should read approx. 4.5 volts. Now start the engine and look for a significant drop in the MAP sensor voltage indicating the MAP sensor is working.

If the MAP reading doesn't change perform the following:
With the Key on, engine off, disconnect the vacuum hose from the MAP sensor. Using a vacuum pump, pull 20 in. of vacuum on the MAP sensor. Does the voltage drop? It should. If it doesn't inspect the MAP sensor vacuum port and vacuum hose to manifold for a restriction of some kind. Repair or replace as necessary.
If there are no restrictions, and the value doesn't change with vacuum, then perform the following: with the Key on and engine off and the MAP sensor unplugged, check for 5 Volts at the reference wire to the MAP sensor connector with a Digital Voltmeter. If there is none, check for reference voltage at the PCM connector. If the reference voltage is present at the PCM connector but not the MAP connector, check for open or short in the reference wire between MAP and PCM and retest. If reference voltage is present, then check for existing ground at the MAP sensor connector. If it isn't present then repair open/short in the ground circuit. If ground is present, then replace MAP sensor.
Other MAP sensor trouble codes include P0105, P0107, P0108 and P0109.

Hope this helps.

Check engine light came on and is giving codes P0171,P0106,P0172,P2188, P2187. What do these mean?

check for a broken vacuum hose or vacuum fitting(s). you can use a can of spray carb cleaner. while running the engine use the spray to test hoses and fittings. give a little squirt to suspected areas. The idle speed will change when you find a vacuum leak. pay particular attention to the hose to the MAP sensor. There may be a problem with the elelctrical connection to the map sensor, or the sensor itself may be bad.
