Hi Gina you need a rachet with an extension and a spark plug socket 5/8"make sure it has a wrench fitting on top for the spark plugs in the back with that size wrench and a gapping gauge for checking the air gap between the firing pin and the electrode at the base of the plug take off 1wire at a time and turn the ratchet counterclockwise to loosen the plug make sure the engine is cold when your going to do this now slide the gapping gauge in between the electrode at the bottom and the firing pin in the middle of the plug and read the number on the gauge your gap is on the emissions label on the radiator support set it by bending the electrode so that it's at that number specified on the label if the pin is really worn change all plugs with new ones the back plugs will need the wrench for the top of the socket good luck Stephen
Pull the spark plugs out and check that they are not burned , also check the gap..and if your car has close to 100k miles just replace them all.. one at the time so you don't put the cables in the wrong order.

look on the inside of the hood and around the engine compartment for stickers... one of them should have the information you need on them.

I am assuming you have the 3.0L Duratec engine. Although the job seems
daunting, it's actually easy to remove the upper half of the intake
manifold plenum. This took me about 40 minutes to remove the first time
I did it, and leaves the rear three spark plugs wide open.
A
good repair manual such as the Chilton's manual for the 1996-2005 Ford
Taurus has the step-by-step. You should get a new set of intake plenum
seals (from Ford or most auto parts stores, which may have to special
order them) along with the spark plugs. The seals are a set oval rings
made of silicone rubber. Yours may not need them but if you damage one
getting the plenum off, or if they have shrunk with age, you'll be glad
you got them. They're about $16 a set.
