MY 1995 JEEP BROKE DOWN ABOUT A YEAR AGO I JUST HAD 3 MAIN FUSES REPLACED A BRAND NEW BATTERY AND A BRAND NEW ALTERNATOR BUT THE BATTERY WON'T KEEP A CHARGE I HAVE A SHORT SOMEHWERE BETWEEN THE FUSE BOX AND THE BATTERY AND THE BATTERY TO GROUND HAS ANYONE EVER HAD THIS PROBLEM HOW DO I FIND THE SHORT? The battery started getting drained right after we bought it brand new. the first night we went to go start it after a few hours and it was completely dead so we jumped it then it started right up so we got the alternator tested they said it needed to be replaced so we bought a brand new alternator and we are still having the same problem it will start up and run as long as you jump it to get it started but after it sits for an hour or so the battery is dead we took the battery back to auto zone and had it tested it is not the battery and we tested the brand new alternator the short is somewhere between the ground the battery and the fuse box that is wehre we pick up the short on the meter but we can't figure out where and don't have a repair manual

Have you checked the charging of the alternator at the battery? (not by a parts store) Put a volt meter across the battery and check voltage while running. You should be showing 13.5v or better (not over 14) with accessories off, 12.5 or better with everything on including high beams. If you don't, chances are you may have a regulator problem. I don't know how you are checking draw, but you should be using an ammeter placed between either battery terminal and cable (cable removed from battery) Unplug each fuse and watch for a substantial drop in draw. That system will be the one with the problem...then, unplug each component served by that fuse (with fuse replaced) till the draw again drops. That will be the component that is pulling your battery down. You did check the simple stuff like sun visor lights and glove box light?

u need the alternator retested, it is also possible your battery has a dead cell... if you have access to an ammeter, check the draw on the ground side... if it is less that an amp or so, the problem lies in the alt. or batt.

so its in the engine bay fuse box called a PDC.
and is a main fuse but which one?
why not state the markings in the lid for this fuse, EXACTLY.

the mains can blow for the following reasons.
swapping out the alternator or starter with out pulling the battery neg lug. (9 out of 10 times, or more)

2: bad alternator.
3: harness shorts.

we use a special cheap too to find this.

Either its a bad new battery or tour altenator isn't charging it. Jumpstart it.

You might not believe this, but check your battery. Some of these vehicles have cut-outs when the battery level goes below a preset amount.
I work on Ford brands and on them, a low battery level will even disconnect the Alternator circuit and mess with the starter. Some even act up when the battery slightly dips below 12 volts.

Your antitheft can make your starter cut out. And If you think about it, all of the measurements to make the engine run are based on feedback of voltage and amperage. This is how the engine management system adjusts. If your prime source of power is low, then all of the following electrical readings will be low. Some may be too low to work.

Your fuelpump will hold pressure in a closed system for hours. The fuel pressure regulator will command the fuelpump to stop working if the fuel pressure is at maximum. Without responses from the other components and after satisfactory pressure, the fuelpump will turn off.

I suggest to check if you have oil leaking onto your alternator or did you recently replace the alternator? Keep in mind that the voltage regulator is built into the alternator on vehicles and I have seen oil leaks internally short the alternator or poor quality aftermarket parts.

Also check ground and wires broke or in short.

BEFORE DISCONNECTING NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE TO MAKE REPAIR, TURN OFF RADIO FIRST TO KEEP FROM LOCKING IT OUT.

My jeep is running down the battery every 2-3 days battery is new and it is charging 14 volts tested with meter it is drawing 12.8 volts. i have tried unplugging everything.

Battery drain on fuse #3 orange
Did you ever figure this problem out? I am having the same issue! i bought a new battery, new alternator, but my jeep keeps dying! i did the battery draw test, as soon as i pulled the fuse block battery feed out the draw was completely gone. can you please tell me what you did, this has been driving me crazy for over a month!
