SOURCE: Cant find there trunk release button or switch for
A trunk release button is not included in most Cavalliers. The cavalier came standard with electronic trunk release from the keyless entry keyring. Otherwise you need to use the key.

Chances are the striker is now bent from slamming the trunk with the latch latched. My suggestion is take the car to a competent body shop. They might charge a little for fixing it, but wont do further damage.
The emergency cable probably didnt retract back to it's normal position. See where the cable connects to the latch on the body of the vehicle (not the lid) if you can follow it. You should be able to use a flatheaded to move the realease back into place. Does the regular trunk release button work?
You have to reset the emergency release, here's how:
1. There is a trunk latch mechanisam on the lid; you will see an opening on the bottom of the mechanism - put a screwdriver through it
2. Now pull the emergency handle twice, while the screwdriver is still inside the latch
3. Once done, your emergency release is reset, and your trunk will now function properly.
try having someone jiggle the trunk up and down from the outside while you pull on the emergency release from the inside, you may have a problem with the wiring in the trunk itself, the wires have a problem chaffing where they come out of the trunk lid and go into the car, you can disconnect both ends and replace that for about $30
ok the latch that holds the trunk closed might be engaged u will have to take a screw driver and press it to release it not the latch on the top the one next to the bumper look closely at the in side of it.
check the latch on the truck lid looks like an upside down u and not like there is a bar in the way. if it looks like a bar in the way then pry it down and left to make the u shape and shut the trunk
