Are you certain it is a cable? These are generally operated by a solid link. Have you removed the door panel yet? This is easy enough, and you may find that the link has come apart or there may be a plastic intermediate part that has broken. Good luck, mattAre you certain it is a cable? If it is the one inside the car it will be in the driver's footwell. Open the driver's door and look at the side trim panel nearest the door. There will be a pull lever marked with a car with the hood open, (see picture). Try the lever. If it is slack it is most likely a broken cable. If it is tight it probably be the latch at the engine end.
If it is the lever itself that has broken, plastic so it can break, grab the 'T' bar end of the cable with a good set of grips (pliers) and pull it.
A broken cable is a lot more fun to deal with!!! You need to look to see if you can get to the release through the front grille. Trace the cable sleeve toward the centre of the hood. It should be connected to a lever. Using a big flat blade screwdriver, hook this lever and swing it left to right. Towards the side the release handle is inside the car. The hood should 'pop' up.
If in doubt get a GOOD mechanic to do it!
Paul, when you can't open a vehicle door from inside the car, it is because either the latch is bad OR the handle is broken OR the rod /cable that goes from the handle to the latch is either off OR broken. Call me Al 314-374-5218 hope this helps and have an awesome day Paul.
The cable runs from the latch to the handle, it sounds like the cable broke off one end or fell off,
this truck uses cables instead of metal rods to open the latch, remove the door panel and see if the cable fell off handle area or latch,, the cable operates the inside door handle and sometimes the outside handle but very rare that it operates the out side handle to open door.
remove the screws that fasten the interior door panel to the door. Visually inspect the handle assembly. there will be two cables that connect the handle and lock button to the door lock assembly. I would bet that the L-shaped end of the interior door handle cable broke. The replacement is self explanatory for the handle. Google the door lock assembly which isn't as visable. Bob
you latch mechanism could be broken or came apart, common to any vehicle.. open the cover to the back and you will see the locking mechanism, once the rear cover open you can find the latch and open it form the inside. once you get the door open you can play with the door handle by pulling on it like you opening the door and you can observed what actually connect to what to operate the latch. if small rod attached from the door handle to the lock could pop off or broken. may have to replace the handle, depend if its broken or came apart. should be 30 buck for the new handle if needed..hope that help some..good luck
Hi it could be as simple as the the bar coming from the interior handle to the door latch has come off or broken, Remove the the door card and check all is hooked up as it should be, Hope this helps
There is a cable that attaches to the inside door latch release handle. The plastic that retains this cable is most likely broken. I have seen this before. If the retainer is not holding the cable sheath correctly, the entire cable moves when the handle is pulled and does not release the door latch.
Remove the door panel and inspect this cable. You will see 2 cables (one is for the door lock). If the plastic is broken, you will need a new interior handle assembly.
Hope this is helpful!!
