I have fire going through the coil but not through the distributor

if you have spark at the distributor end of the coil wire and nothing coming out of the distributor wires then you may have a distributor rotor that has a small hole causing the spark to go to ground to the distributor shaft and not out the cap wires.you may have to take a very close look at it as it may only show as a black or grey track mark.or just change the cap and rotor if its been a while.

Need wire diagram for 99 durango firing order

FIRING ORDERS printpage_icon.gif

Before carrying out extensive tests to isolate poor running problems, check connections of spark plug wires. This is especially important if plugs, wires, distributor, etc., have been disturbed recently for service. Obviously, this is not applicable to the wireless 4.7L engine.

NOTE To avoid problems, remove and tag the spark plug wires one at a time to ease reinstallation.
For vehicles with an extensive service history, keep in mind that the distributor could have been removed previously and rewired. The resultant wiring would hold the correct firing order, but could change the relative placement of the plug towers in relation to the engine. For this reason, it is very important that you label all wires before disconnecting any of them. Also, before removal, compare the current wiring with the accompanying illustrations. If the current wiring does not match, make notes in your book to reflect how your engine is wired.

Need a diagram for the firing order for a 1998 Dodge durango 5.2 engine. I think I mixed the wires up. Help!

Firing Orders NOTE: To avoid confusion, remove and tag the spark plug wires one at a time, for replacement.
If a distributor is not keyed for installation with only one orientation, it could have been removed and installed improperly and then rewired. The new wiring arrangement would maintain the correct firing order, but could change the relative placement of the plug towers in relation to the engine. For this reason it is imperative that you label all wires before disconnecting any of them. Also, before removal, compare the current wiring with the accompanying illustrations. If the current wiring does not match, make notes of the current plug wire locations and orientation of the distributor cap.

Wiring diagram for distributor cap

the old fashioned way to check this is to remove your distribution cap and watch the position of your rotor arm to see which position it is for cylindar 1. then take out the spark plug for cylider one and use a light to see inside you should be able to see the piston move up and down throgh the hole, now the piston only goes down twice in one cycle so by cranking the engine round by hand you can correspond where the piton just starts to go down is the point of ignition so the rotor arm should be at the same point lined up with the spark lead for cylinder one inside the cap. if it mile off then cylinder 1 is at the top of the induction stroke, so crank round again until the piston starts to go down again. then you have the distributor arm at the right position, then follow round the cap the firing order for your engine. and then wire up the cap the same way.
