the car starts and the starter is still running. After 2-3 sec, the engine stops. The starter is still running. So i think my starter should be ok. Can you give me a little bit more info why you think its the starter plz.

the starter is running while the key is in the RUN position (and not in the CRANK position).

I turned the ignition on inside the car. The starter will not engage, click, or engage. Is there a security device on the car that prevents this or is this a new starter to be replaced?

Should it still start after bypassing the lock and using the igntion control module with a screwdriver?
Your best bet take it to a qualified repair shop !

Starter motor

98 swift
the battery is weak ,discharged or bad, change it.
try jumper cable starts.
if that works try a charged battery now. or clean the terminals first.
if jumper cable start fails , then hot wire the starter.
using a jumper wire. (see key line link below)
if that fails the starter is bad.
if that works the key line is dead.
is caR A/T or m/t tranny?
we cant guess that. so.....
if M/T the clutch switch is bad.
if A/T the PRNLD switch is bad, try cranking in NEUTRAL ?
if input to both switches is dead, then igntion start switch is bad.

the method works on all cars , older that about 2007.
newer cars have autostart , remote start and other complex bs.

I need to replace the ignition switch on a 1999 ford taurus without the key

very simple, insert key in the ignition. Then insert a small phillips head screw driver in the middle hole underneath the steering column. You should feel the screwdriver head hit a hole.Maintain pressure on the screwdriver. Turn the key to the on postion(without starting the vehicle). You should be able to pull the igntion switch out with the key.

1999 chevy lumina turn key and nothing happens, no click or anything. Battery OK Help please

Check your fuse panels first, and make sure none are blown. There should be one under the hood somewhere and one inside the car. If they are all ok, then it may be a fusible link in the power supply wire that goes from the battery to the starter, or you could have a faulty igntion switch(not the part you put the key, but an electrical part that is either inside behind the key switch or mounted below it on the steering column. Or it could be a faulty starter solenoid on the starter itself. Or the wires on the starter are loose.

Car turning over without keys in igntion

you need to put in a new ignition.the tumblers in yours are worn out so you can start the car without a key.its about 12.00 at the auto parts store and theres a pin hole where you can insert the end of a paperclip to help remove the old ignition switch
