Depending on the type of car you have, you may ask for a second opinion to make sure you need to replace the water pump (and it is not just a re-used hose clamp that is leaking) and to find out if the design of your car needs to get soething else done while you are changing the water pump. For example, some cars have the tming belt and water pump and front oil seals all in the same place, so you might find that it makes sense to do it all for about $450 (hondas and toyotas). Remember, water leaks from hose clamps, hoses, freeze plugs (quarter-sized covers one the sides of the engine block), radiators, water pumps, thermostat housings, heater cores, etc. Make sure you always get a second opinion on your leak. You may save a ton of money. Good luck.
No, leaking water pump just means it is time to replace your pump. Not continue driving until you get around to it. replace it now. If it is not starting something esle is wrong. Unless you've over-heated the engine.
It can cause the engine to seas up from the heat and destroy the motor i hope you didn`t run it to that point.
