Change both sensors at the same time. Once you change that, have the computers reset. That will take your transmission out of safe mode. But speedometer must work to keep transmission out of safe mode. Input sensor lets transmission know when to change gears. If it gets no signal at all it changes to safe mode 1st and 2nd gear. Which runs your RPMs really high. If you drove a lot with it likes this. Once sensors are changed. Check transmission fluid while its running and on flat ground, make sure you use the right transmission fluid, wrong one could cost you a transmission.

Where is the speed sensor located on a 2002 Chrysler Concorde

Beware speed sensors seldom fail. Chrysler products transmission have a limp mode where they only shift to second gear when something goes wrong and many times when nothing is wrong. If the speedometer fails it goes to limp. If an OBD scan gives a transmission code sometimes clearing the code will end the problem. When driving if the transmission shifts one time as it should the sensor is working.

I have a 1999 Chrysler 300M. Simultaneously, the Check Engine light came on, the speedometer stopped working, and the car doesn't shift out of 2nd gear. What's the likely problem?

these vehicles have alot of problems with the tcm( tranmission control module) internal failures of trans speed sensors. your car is currently in "limp in mode" to protect your trasmission!!!

My 99 chrysler concord speedometer quit working and it wont shift out of 2nd gear. What is wrong?

Chances are the check engine light came on also. You should have the vehicle scanned for codes, it could be that the output speed sensor has failed. This could put the transmission into limp mode (second gear) and cause the speedometer not to work. I would guess this to be an inexpensive repair, .6 hours labor plus the cost of the sensor, $16.99 at O'reillys ...I hope this helps

Transmission problems

It sounds like the output speed sensor is bad, but without a code it is hard to say. It will cause it to go into limp in mode which is 2nd gear without an up or downshift.

1999 voyager

this is called "limp mode" which means to "limp" home. Chryslers default to limp mode when there is a problem with a speed sensor, body control module or other sensor

scan the computer and see what it says

I sometimes remove a bettery terminal leave disconnected for a few minutes and this resets the computer and clears codes

better to scan though and clear and see if it helps
